CircleCI introduces the Insights dashboard for DevOps teams
CircleCI Inc., a software deployment and integration platform for DevOps, the practice of combining software development and information technology operations, today announced the launch of “Insights,” a dashboard that will give engineering teams actionable data for optimizing development pipelines.
“Until now, it’s been incredibly difficult to get a pulse on the development process,” said Jim Rose, CircleCI’s chief executive. “Customers were asking, ‘How fast are we? How resilient are we? How quickly can we recover?’ but didn’t have easy access to the data. With our new Insights dashboard, our customers can clearly see trends and performance history, and pinpoint opportunities for improvement.”
Today, DevOps teams must work harder than ever to deliver faster with fewer errors within continuous delivery and continuous integration or CI/CD pipelines, which require teams to constantly create new features, integrate, test and deploy them. This means also means every element of the team must have a lot of information at their fingertips and a lot of communication capability.
CircleCI Insights seeks to provide that information and communication all in one dashboard. The dashboard does this by allowing users to track the status of jobs, monitor the duration of workflows and optimize pipelines.
With job status tracking, engineers can see which jobs are failing and identify which workflows have failed tests, and thus prioritize efforts for pipeline improvements. With duration monitoring, bottlenecks can be identified more quickly and this can mean opportunities to parallelize tasks. Finally, the optimization of pipelines means simply getting more out of using CircleCI to get the best performance out of the overall experience.
“Using CircleCI’s insights capabilities we’ve been able to pinpoint failed builds faster and have seen success rates climb,” said Jon Anderson, senior software engineer of outreach at CircleCI. “CircleCI’s insights are also beneficial to understand long term trends when determining best CI/CD practices for our team.”
CircleCI intends to continue to enhance its dashboard with features such as trends and test insights in the coming weeks.
