OpsRamp adds automation features to save time for IT teams

OpsRamp Inc. is rolling out a new release of its infrastructure monitoring platform that will reduce the number of person-hours required to find and fix technical issues.

The update, OpsRamp Fall 2020 Release, was introduced this morning.

OpsRamp Inc. is a venture-backed startup competing in a part of the enterprise software market known as AIOps. These products use machine learning to automate parts of the maintenance work involved in keeping a company’s infrastructure running smoothly.

Besides its core infrastructure monitoring features, OpsRamp’s platform includes an AI assistant called OpsQ and a tool that enables administrators to create automation workflows to ease repetitive tasks. Today’s update combines these two features to let the OpsQ assistant automatically recommend automation workflows to administrators. A workflow can, for example, trigger a script to restart a server if it detects an issue with that machine.

There are many scenarios where a problem is too complicated or too specialized to be solved automatically. For such situations, OpsRamp is adding the ability to create workflows that bring a person into the loop. The startup’s platform can, for example, send notifications about technical issues to the information technology team or block an infrastructure configuration change until it’s approved by an administrator.

IT teams also have access to a new dashboard for monitoring the automation workflows used throughout the organization. OpsRamp says this feature is useful both for troubleshooting problems and for auditing, because it acts as a record of infrastructure changes. The dashboard shows information on who made what change and when.

On top of expanding its automation features, a second way OpsRamp hopes to save time for administrators is by making it easier to set up its platform. Previously, users had to individually connect cloud infrastructure resources to OpsRamp before they could start monitoring them. A newly added setup wizard will shorten the task by automatically discovering a company’s IT assets in bulk to speed up onboarding.
