Edgybees raises $9.5M in new funding for lifesaving augmented aerial video

Edgybees Ltd., a provider of real-time high-precision geotagging and visual augmentation of aerial video, today announced it closed $9.5 million in Series A funding led by Seraphim Capital.

Edgybees uses its augmented vision capability for defense, public safety and critical infrastructure command centers that depend on aerial video to make lifesaving decisions in real time during rescue and defense missions.

For example, firefighters might use aerial video to understand a scene from a bird’s-eye video to see how fire is progressing through a house and where engines and firefighters are moving through a building. With the addition of geotagging, augmented vision and other enhancements, additional information can be added onto the video feed in real time that could allow commanders to quickly direct resources where they are most needed.

“Our mission is to ensure positive human outcomes during lifesaving missions,” said Adam Kaplan, co-founder and chief executive of Edgybees. “Our new partners bring unique industry expertise that optimally positions the company to drive innovation and expand our global footprint.”

Edgybees’ platform brings together multiple sensors at once across as many platforms as might be in the air or on the ground and provides all the feeds together to the command center. That means everything a team can deploy can be brought to bear at once, including normal cameras, high-resolution cameras, forward-looking infrared — known as FLIR, which can “see” through smoke — imagery from space including satellites and more.

These video feeds are combined in the Edgybees Video Intelligence Platform with a high-accuracy geo-registration and alignment system that adds roads, landmarks and other mission-critical data using augmented vision on top of live video feeds by integrating with other third-party systems.

The result is an operational perspective for field commanders that that greatly reduces time-on-target and enhances team collaboration, situational awareness and mission effectiveness. In situations with first responders and firefighters, that could mean lives saved as rescue crews can get in and out of dangerous situations faster.

“Edgybees can be described as a Google Maps fused with live video footage in real-time,” said Mark Boggett, managing partner and chief executive of Seraphim Capital. “Their geo-referencing capability is a breakthrough technology that brings a new level of insight and usability to video streams from space, drones or bodycams.”

Refinery Ventures, LG Technology Ventures, Kodem Growth Partners, and existing investors, OurCrowd, 8VC, Verizon Ventures and Motorola Solutions Venture Capital also participated in the round.
