Watch live: AWS event spotlights top 10 cloud-scale data startups

There can be only one winner … and in the time of COVID that winner is cloud. On March 24, cloud computing colossus Amazon Web Services Inc. is inviting 10 startups to take the stage for a virtual celebration of cloud-scale data innovation.

2021 marks the first year for the Startup Showcase: Innovations With Cloud Data. Jointly produced by AWS and theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, the event offers business decision makers and cloud data experts a close-up look at the next generation in cloud-scale data management solutions. Cloud adoption has been firmly established as essential for business success, and secure, quality data management across a hybrid environment is the foundation of the new era of enterprise operations. AWS’ Partner Network Global Startup Program is instrumental in giving entrepreneurs guidance and support to bring the next generation of cloud-scale data solutions to market.

“AWS has become a platform for innovations. Investors are flocking to companies building value on top of the cloud because it’s capital efficient, fast and can lead to much faster market adoption and scale,” said Dave Vellante, co-chief executive officer of SiliconANGLE, chief analyst at SiliconANGLE sister market research firm Wikibon, and co-host of theCUBE. “For customers, cloud companies make it very easy to experiment with new innovations at very low risk. TheCUBE is thrilled to be hosting this important and exciting program.”

The best of the best

The 10 companies to be celebrated during the AWS Startup Showcase all focus on cloud-scale data management, but the solutions they offer address a wide range of problems. AutoGrid Inc. offers big data solutions for the energy industry, serving both traditional and renewable energy providers. Security is a top priority for the company, which credits AWS for helping it provide solutions that are rapidly scalable and extremely secure.

A collaboration between former AWS and Azure executives led to the founding of MontyCloud Inc. The company’s DAY2 product line simplifies management of routine cloud operations and hybrid cloud architectures.

Data intelligence platform BigID Inc. is one of several newly minted unicorns in the showcase. Others include data analytics startup Dremio Inc., Kubernetes native application management platform Kong Inc., and product analytics and marketing intelligence platform Amplitude Inc., which is making a splash in the fast-growing product analysis market.

Customer experience management in the digital era

APN showcase partner Cordial Inc. has developed a cross-channel messaging and data platform that collects, stores and manages massive amounts of customer data. Cordial’s clients can then leverage that data to deliver individualized messages at scale, Beth Dabagian, director of partnerships & channels at Cordial, told theCUBE. “The AWS cloud services architecture enables unmatched scalability, reliability and availability of this data, which is crucial for a seamless and personalized customer experience,” she said.

Sharing a focus on unified customer management solutions is Reltio Inc. Speaking to theCUBE, Chas Kielt, Reltio’s senior director of industry solutions marketing and corporate communications, emphasized the importance of innovation in a global economy characterized by exponential growth of digital transformation. “Reltio’s nine-year relationship with AWS helps companies strategically manage enterprise data to accelerate real-time operations and power advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, machine learning that give businesses a competitive edge,” said Kielt.

Having Reltio’s master data management SaaS platform available in the AWS Marketplace is a “game-changer” for companies embracing a cloud-first strategy or migrating to the cloud, said Reltio client Joanna Walker, global master data management architect at AstraZeneca.

Rounding out the top 10 are Stardog Inc. and WireWheel Inc. WireWheel’s solution addresses the critical need for simplified and secure management of sensitive customer data. Its data privacy platform provides “do not sell” and privacy program management, and it simplifies compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act.

Stardog’s enterprise Knowledge Graph platform solves the data access problem by weaving together unstructured data in hybrid and multicloud environments. The ability to turn data into machine-understandable knowledge is thanks to a data fabric, which forms a semantic layer to connect data silos.

The 10 startups featured are all part of AWS’ Partner Network Global Startup Program. Open by invite-only, the program provides growth support for the most promising startups with the most innovative and groundbreaking solutions.

“It has been proven over the years that the most important startups have been built on AWS with cloud native technologies,” said John Furrier, founder and co-CEO of SiliconANGLE and co-host of theCUBE. “TheCUBE and AWS are showcasing the hottest cloud startups that are changing how businesses will operate in the future.”
