Watch live: BizOps helps businesses succeed in the data-driven post-COVID landscape

The world is eager to put the trials of 2020 behind it. But the challenges COVID-19 brought to the business world are not going away anytime soon.

Sixty percent of enterprise leaders believe 2021 will be as tough for businesses as the previous year, according to a new BizOps industry research survey on the state of digital business. Remote work, global uncertainty and the ongoing economic impact of the pandemic were cited as top concerns. But possibly the most revealing statistic shows the disconnect between strategic goals and technological investment in businesses undergoing digital transformation.

While 95% of survey respondents agreed that successful digital transformation is about business outcomes rather than technological adoption, 62% stated that their company has adopted technology “for technology’s sake” rather than to meet business objectives.

“The pandemic was a forcing function for better alignment towards business goals and outcomes,” said Laureen Knudsen, chief transformation officer at Broadcom and BizOps Coalition founding member, citing the results of the survey. “While the adverse effects of the pandemic are beginning to wane, a lot of the outcomes are here to stay.”

On April 21, the BizOps Coalition is sponsoring the Chaos to Clarity: BizOps for Digital Transformation event for industry leaders looking to harness technology and create value in the digital world. The event brings together BizOps experts from a variety of industries for a series of one-on-one interviews and panel discussions hosted by theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. BizOps links business outcomes with technological adoption

Seventy percent of digital transformations fail. And the most common reason is the lack of connection between information technology decisions and business goals. The BizOps Coalition survey found that 61% of businesses have made technology selections without consideration of business objectives. So, while companies invest billions in digital transformation efforts, much of that money is spent on technology that brings no value to the bottom line.

BizOps helps businesses avoid these costly mistakes by bringing the organization together under one digital masterplan that puts business outcomes front and center — AKA: creating clarity from chaos.

“BizOps is really about putting a lens on this critical element … that we need to fuse business and IT; that IT needs to transform itself to recognize that it’s this value generator, it’s not a cost center,” Serge Lucio, general manager of the Enterprise Software Division at Broadcom Inc. stated in an interview with theCUBE.

When a company is operating as a cohesive whole, it is more resilient, giving it the ability to more quickly scale operations and rapidly respond to changing market conditions. With 87% of survey respondents putting this agility as the most important factor for success in 2021 and beyond, the benefits of BizOps for business leaders become clear.

“We’re seeing the rapid confluence of a number of factors that have historically been quite separate. BizOps speaks to the intersection of operational and technology models,” stated Dave Vellante, co-founder and chief analyst at The Wikibon Project and co-CEO of SiliconANGLE Media. “Technology is about to undergo some of the most rapid advancements ever seen with an explosion of inexpensive, highly customizable processing power that will usher in a new era of software innovation that is world-changing.”
