Watch Live: Enterprise interest in AI for analytics drives Io-Tahoe and Snowflake collaboration, Apr. 29

Enterprises are learning that integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning into a data analytics strategy can result in two significant benefits: increased innovation and reduced costs.

These two outcomes are fueling interest in the application of AI analytics to massive data stores. A 2019 report from Enterprise Management Associates quantified the reasons why firms were gravitating toward this approach.

EMA found that 88% of participants experienced an increase in the rate of innovation as a result of using AI analytics and a number were experiencing savings of up to $5 million annually.

It is outcomes such as these that are altering the landscape for providers of data automation tools for the enterprise, such as Io-Tahoe LLC.

“We’re helping customers move away from manually curating their data,” said Ajay Vohora, chief executive officer of Io-Tahoe, during an interview with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. “It used to be a time where if there were data governance initiatives, there would be teams of people manually feeding a data catalog. Suddenly, the landscape has changed.”

The evolving landscape for automated data management will be one of the many topics discussed during ActiveDQ Intelligent Automation for Data Quality Management, a special presentation on theCUBE, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. PT on April 29.

The event will feature representatives from Io-Tahoe and Snowflake Inc. who will discuss the role of ActiveDQ in intelligent automation, curation of Snowflake data stores to drive analytics, and how to reduce manual work while improving speed to insight. (* Disclosure below.)

Mandates for automation

EMA’s findings demonstrate the positive results seen in adoption of AI and machine learning tools to manage data, which will come as a welcome relief for many enterprises because there is essentially no choice.

One study recently reported that 35% of U.S. manufacturers have deployed advanced analytics in the past three years. As data and analytics drive positive business outcomes, this trend is only expected to continue.

“The modern scale and velocity of enterprise data essentially mandates mechanisms for automation, if organizations expect to keep up with consistent data management practices,” said Paige Bartley, senior research analyst at 451 Research, part of S&P Global Market Intelligence, in an interview with SiliconANGLE. “All the available organizational human talent and even crowdsourcing models are no match for the current trajectory of data growth. There needs to be intelligent automation – leveraging machine learning – to effectively and consistently gain control of data.”

‘Coopetition’ becomes standard

Being able to effectively gain control of data will also take partnerships, even if it might involve an unusual pairing of competitors. Snowflake built its successful Data Cloud on top of the AWS platform, yet it is also a direct competitor with the cloud giant’s RedShift data warehouse product.

AWS also offers its own data management and analytics products in competition with Io-Tahoe.  This hasn’t prevented Io-Tahoe from partnering with AWS to improve access to patient data in the healthcare industry and facilitate data workload migration to the cloud through SmartData Catalog Technology.

“In the cloud world, ‘coopetition’ is absolutely necessary to succeed,” said John Santaferraro, research director, data, analytics and AI, at Enterprise Management Associates, in an interview with SiliconANGLE. “In the case of AWS, they are a cloud infrastructure provider, not just a cloud data and analytics provider. In order to maintain a competitive advantage against other cloud infrastructure providers, they benefit anytime a new vendor releases a product on their platform. So, even though Io-Tahoe may be competitive to AWS data and analytics offerings, they are necessary to their cloud infrastructure business.”
