Permission.io integrates Google Cloud Marketplace for blockchain-based opt-in advertising

Permission.io, a provider of permission-based digital advertising, announced Tuesday that its blockchain validator and full node are available on Google Cloud Marketplace.

With the company’s infrastructure, marketers can build distributed apps that ask permission and allow audiences to opt-in and reward them with cryptocurrency for engagement with advertisements.

The nature of internet advertising has become so intrusive and aggressive that many users have begun to run ad blockers as a matter of course. And that’s before addressing the attendant issues with privacy problems that come with how personal data is used when ads are targeted. As many as 42.7% of internet users worldwide report using an ad blocker.

Permission.io wants to turn the idea of advertising on its head by allowing marketers to ask permission of audiences and pay them for their engagement and thus allow them to control the use of their data.

“Our mission is to lead the web toward a new engagement model, one that enables users to own, control and profit from their time and personal information while engaging with the web as they might normally do,” said Charles Silver, founder and chief executive of Permission.io.

It is similar to how Brave Browser approaches advertising. It shows ads only to users who have opted in and then rewards them for attention and does so with a currency. In the case of Permission.io, users are rewarded with ASK tokens.

With the addition of the Google Cloud Marketplace, advertisers can now more easily reach a broader audience of potential customers who may want to view opt-in ads and receive rewards.

The two offerings that Permission.io provides are a validator node and a full node of its blockchain that serve separate infrastructural roles.

The Permission.io validator node runs on the Google Cloud network and operates to secure the Permission.io blockchain by solving proof-of-work puzzles to verify the integrity of the consensus mechanism. Only approved Permission partners can run it and they will earn ASK tokens for running the node.

The Permission.io full node makes it possible to build a self-sufficient node within Google Cloud that can be used to test and install distributed applications in a truly private manner. It allows users to do their own research and development without any reliance on any other nodes in the network.

Silver believes that expanding onto Google Cloud will give dApp developers all the tools they need to build opt-in advertising products that use blockchain technology to protect privacy.

“Permission.io has built tools and infrastructure that power a highly-effective, consent-based advertising model, enabling brands to engage with willing consumers to increase ROI, drive conversion and build trust,” said Silver.
