Zoom joins AWS to accelerate the delivery of modern video solutions for government
Few companies have become as popular during the COVID-19 pandemic as Zoom Video Communications Inc., responsible for enabling real-time collaboration experiences when everybody was locked down. A large part of Zoom’s positive impact occurred in the public sector, where agents depended on the platform to maintain their activities and serve citizens.
To further promote the government’s mission, Zoom has taken a new step: It has joined the AWS Partner Network for Public Sector Partners. This means that both Zoom and Zoom for Government are now available on the AWS Marketplace for all government customers. Before, an AWS customer would have to purchase Zoom for Government through Carahsoft or a U.S. public sector distributor.
“Over the last 18 months, we’ve just exploded across all the marketplace, both in federal, state, local government and education, and what’s exciting is we’ve just scratched the surface for our customers,” said Matt Mandrgoc (pictured), head of U.S. public sector at Zoom. “Part of this whole thing around public sector … what’s exciting is how do we start to look forward to the next 12, 24, 36 months in helping our customers? How do we really add value in accelerating that mission value for them?”
Mandrgoc spoke with John Furrier, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during the AWS Summit Washington, DC event. They discussed Zoom’s pivotal role during the pandemic, how the company intends to continue contributing to the public sector for years to come, and recent developments coming from the Zoom and AWS partnership. Frictionless video communication
The use of Zoom in the public sphere has reached great dimensions. In addition to allowing interaction between government agents and between them and the public, Zoom played a fundamental role in enabling court hearings, legislative sessions and the functioning of remote education, for example, which would otherwise be impossible.
Working with AWS, Zoom intends to deepen this relationship with the public sector and accelerate the delivery of modern communication solutions. As Zoom continues to innovate, AWS will support Zoom’s goal to make video communication frictionless for their common government customers.
“Think about this: Zoom and AWS going into our public sector customers, bringing solutions and helping them evolve, innovate and transform as they’re evolving through this people-centric hybrid network or workplace journey that they’re going through,” Mandrgoc said. “And then the best part about this is this ecosystem of partners that help both of us and be a part of that process as well.”
Zoom for Government has all the same features within Zoom Commercial but operates in a dedicated, secure infrastructure designed to meet the requirements of FedRAMP Moderate baseline and Department of Defense information Impact Level 2, which includes some low confidentiality information requiring minimal access control.
More recently, Zoom for Government received DoD Impact Level 4 authorization to operate with conditions from the Department of the Air Force. This involves dealing with controlled unclassified information following certain guidelines.
“We were at FedRAMP Impact Level 2 moderate back in April of 2019 … so when the pandemic occurred, we were able to explode forward, help our customers,” Mandrgoc explained. “Now, we’ve even looked past that and go, ‘What do we do next?’ DOD Impact Level 4.”
