Sisense weighs in on the next generation of business intelligence

The way to ingrain data and analytics into a company’s culture isn’t by converting the company workers into data-hungry consumers of the stuff. It’s by hiding the data so that employees can carry on with their usual routines and tasks without being intimidated by the absorbing of new intelligence, like dashboards, for example.

“Make data invisible, make analytics invisible, and bring it to where people are,” said Ashley Kramer (pictured), chief marketing officer and chief product officer at Sisense Inc., an analytics workflow provider. “The dashboard doesn’t have to go away. But you have to make it less intimidating, more approachable, more understandable, which is where AI comes in.”

Kramer spoke Lisa Martin and David Nicholson, co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, during AWS re:Invent. They discussed how the business intelligence data landscape was changing. (* Disclosure below.)

‘People are busy’

By doing a less intimidating infusion of data into everyday workflows, rather than forcing it, workers are getting better at their jobs, according to Kramer.

That’s “because they’re using data, and they’re not learning a new skill set,” Kramer said. “They don’t have time. There’s no time.”

That approach is new. And natural language generation and querying is also assisting the worker in taking advantage of data BI.

“AI is a big piece of this where BI and analytics is evolving to,” Kramer added.

AWS is helping Sisense — in part because all of the data is being placed in the AWS cloud. But it’s also assisting by producing the services that Sisense is the frontend layer for.

“Less than 30% of organizations are actually successful with their analytic solutions,” Kramer said, quoting research. That’s because it’s “too intimidating, it’s too clunky, and it’s too disjointed,” she stated. What we do is we make every company a data company by not necessarily making them really realize that they’re using analytics and data. People are busy. And they don’t have time to change what they’re doing.”
