Report: Google’s Android 13 release will feature interface and battery optimizations

Google LLC will reportedly include new interface options and battery optimizations in Android 13, the next major iteration of its mobile operating system.

The upcoming features were detailed on Thursday by XDA Developers, which attributed the information to a source with access to an early version of Android 13. XDA Developers previously revealed early details about the capabilities of Android 12 prior to its launch.

The upcoming Android 13 release is said to be codenamed Tiramisu at Google. Once it rolls out, users will reportedly receive access to new operating system settings that will make it easier to customize the interface.

The first upcoming setting is expected to give Android users more flexibility to customize apps’ interface language. Android currently offers fairly limited customization options in this area. To give users more options, Google’s engineers are reportedly developing a capability dubbed “Panlingual” that would provide the ability to configure language settings separately for each app on a device.

The search giant is also said to be preparing an update to the clock that appears on Android’s lock screen. In most cases, the clock displays the digits that it uses to indicate the time of day in a single row. But sometimes, the digits are displayed in two rows instead of one. Google will reportedly change the design of the lock screen clock in Android 13 to always use the single-row arrangement.

The interface isn’t the only component of the operating system that the search giant is expected to update.

The Thursday report indicates that Google may be developing a way for users to separately enable or display push notifications for each installed app. Additionally, the company is reportedly developing a new energy management capability. The capability would automatically limit what tasks an app can perform when a device’s battery is running low to improve the user experience.

The latest rumors about Android 13 have emerged only weeks after Google released the first beta version of Android 12L, an upgrade to the operating system’s current release. It includes optimizations aimed at mobile devices such as tablets and foldable smartphones. Android 12L features a multitasking capability that provides the ability to run two different apps side-by-side, as well as a new taskbar that makes it easier switch between apps.
