Data protection outfit Clumio reveals strong growth on AWS Cloud

Data protection startup Clumio Inc. revealed some impressive numbers today that show how it has grown its user base since switching to focus primarily on protecting Amazon Web Services Inc.’s customers.

The company revealed its AWS customer base has grown by more than 400%, while its cloud-based annual recurring revenue jumped by 450% in the last year.

Clumio’s growth stems from a decision last year to double down on protecting AWS applications with the launch of new products such as Clumio Protect for Amazon S3 and Clumio Discover.

Clumio Protect is designed to safeguard the large amounts of data companies store in Amazon S3, much of which is extremely sensitive and therefore a tempting target for hackers. Clumio Protect mitigates any risk by making it impossible for hackers to steal, delete or encrypt this data.

It does so by creating immutable backups of that data. Those backups can’t be deleted or modified, not even by administrators. As a result, hackers can’t tamper with the data either, meaning S3 customers will always be able to restore their files should they suffer a cyberattack.

Another benefit of Clumio Protect is it helps customers to comply with data regulations, providing alerts if it detects any file that isn’t stored in accordance with compliance requirements.

Clumio Discover, meanwhile, is a cloud optimization engine that provides actionable insights to ensure data in Amazon’s cloud is protected and that costs are optimized across all assets.

Clumio co-founder and Chief Executive Poojan Kumar (pictured), said the company offers a robust, full-featured and easy-to-use platform that’s becoming increasingly essential for its customers.

“The increase in cloud-native application development, coupled with advancements in AI/ML trends driving data lake growth and consolidation, are adding pressure to stay ahead of data protection challenges with future proof solutions,” he explained.

Clumio also revealed that it has obtained a Net Promoter Score of 88, due to the simplicity of its platform, its proactive support and the quality of its sales experience. Net Promoter Score is a widely used customer loyalty and satisfaction metric, taken by asking customers how likely they are on a scale of 0 to 10 to recommend a product or service to others.

“Clumio’s expertise in the cloud gave us confidence along every stage of our cloud journey and provided a smooth path to uninterrupted data protection,” said Derek Costa, vice president of information technology infrastructure at Shields Health Solutions Holdings LLC. “From ransomware avoidance to compliance to TCO, they met all our requirements for a comprehensive cloud data protection solution.”

Although Clumio attributes much of its recent growth to its focus on AWS, the company isn’t solely focused on Amazon’s cloud. It also offers data protection services for Microsoft Corp.’s SQL Server and Microsoft 365, as well as VMware Cloud on AWS.
