Data providers join Alation’s Open Data Quality Initiative for the modern data stack

Data management startup Alation Inc. today announced that a range of data providers have joined its Open Data Quality Initiative for the modern data stack.

Alation designed the Open Data Quality Initiative to accelerate data governance and access to trusted self-service analytics for the data consumers. The company describes data quality as a top priority for organizations automating processes and creating new products and services using data.

Alation’s Open Data quality Framework opens up the Alation Data Catalog to any data quality vendor in the modern data stack. It also provides teams with unrivaled openness and interoperability that best suits their needs.

Joining the initiative is data quality and data observability providers, including Acceldata Inc., Anomalo Inc., Bigeye Inc., Experian plc, FirstEigen LLC, Lightup Data Inc. and Soda Data NV. Capgemini SE and Fivetran Inc. have also joined Alation to support ODQF.

Alation’s ODQF partners gain access to a software development kit that includes an open application programming interface, easily accessible documents via a developer portal and partner onboarding tutorials with integration best practices. This integration provides data consumers with instant access to the data quality rules, metrics and warnings they need across the broadest possible number of vendors, seamlessly integrated into the Alation Data Catalog, Alation said.

“Data quality has been an intractable problem for decades,” explained Sanjeev Mohan, a former Gartner Inc. research vice president. “Data catalogs have become the go-to source to discover, store and act on metadata. As such, data catalogs are well-positioned to address the data quality problem today.”

Interoperability of data is key to the initiative, with Raj Gossain, chief product officer at Alation, claiming that interoperability and freedom of choice are the future of the modern data stack. With interoperability, organizations no longer need to invest in a single tool from a single company.

“That’s exactly why we are creating an ecosystem of best-of-breed data quality and data observability partners that interoperate with Alation,” Gossain said. “ODQF was created with our customers’ needs in mind. Now they have the option to pick one or several data quality and data observability vendors that best fit their organization’s requirements, while ensuring that Alation is the single source of reference for their comprehensive data intelligence needs.”

Satyen Sangani, co-founder and chief executive officer of Alation, spoke with Dave Vellante, host of SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming video studio theCUBE in September on the company’s release of new data governance capabilities and a deeper partnership with Snowflake Inc.

Alation’s Data Governance App is designed for multicloud applications and powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence to reduce time and manual effort for data operations. The built-in integration for Snowflake will allow mutual customers to manage data policies and protect information assets through a single view.
