BIG DATA

Data collaboration vital for successful digital transformation, says Deloitte

Organizations are increasingly embracing data collaboration for effective digital transformation,  and technologies and techniques continue to evolve.

As companies leverage the expertise of professional services organizations to drive their data maturity goals, the gospel of data collaboration and sharing is taking on wings.

“We often tell folks that data has and will continue to be more valuable than the systems that own it and manage it,” said Juan Tello (pictured), principal and chief data officer at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “And I think we’re starting to see that. We’re starting to see the importance and the value of data become way more important and more of the focus around the strategy for organizations.”

Tello spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Lisa Martin at Snowflake Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Deloitte’s philosophy around data, both with corporate clients and its strategic partnership with Snowflake Inc., as well as what’s new and upcoming in the world of data sharing. (* Disclosure below.)

Data within and outward

The data outlook at Deloitte is two-pronged. First, there’s an internal strategy in which the company is itself a Snowflake customer managing its own perpetual modernization journey. Second is as a client-facing company, where it takes the same strategies out to clients in varying stages of their transformation journeys.

“The opportunity to help our clients modernize and achieve a level of data maturity in their journey is strategically super important,” Tello stated.

For data maturation to occur as the natural next step for companies on the journey, there needs to be the establishment of a construct detailing the data’s value, in addition to bi-directional partner relationships within the ecosystem, Tello added.

“You hear concepts like the data clean room, where you have two partners coming together and agreeing with certain terms to share data bidirectionally. I do believe that is the future in how we need to do more data collaboration and data sharing at a scale that we’ve not quite seen,” he concluded.
