BIG DATA

Pure Storage addresses unstructured data demands and modern application growth with FlashBlade//S release

As companies scale, the time taken to extract actionable insights from data becomes increasingly crucial. With its new FlashBlade product release, Pure Storage Inc. is meeting that point of need, among  others.

“It’s easy to say that it’s just the latest and greatest version of the FlashBlade, but obviously it’s a lot more than that,” said Matt Burr (pictured), general manager at Pure Storage. “We’ve had a lot of success with FlashBlade across the board, in particular with Meta and their research supercluster, which is one of the largest AI superclusters in the world.”

Burr spoke with Dave Vellante, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, for a digital CUBE Conversation. They discussed the FlashBlade//S announcement and the benefits it has in store for organizations and developer teams. (* Disclosure below.)

Driving results at a gargantuan scale

Pure’s role in powering the Meta project and its artificial intelligence research cluster is a big accomplishment, according to Burr. The features packed into the company’s new storage platform, make it a compelling offering, he explained.

“We’ve increased modularity by building co-design software and hardware and leveraging that into something that doubles density, performance and power efficiency,” Burr stated. “On top of that, you can scale independently, storage, networking and compute, which is a pretty big deal because it gives you more flexibility, gives you a little more granularity around performance or capacity.”

In adding all these new capabilities, Pure envisions itself catering to a wider variety of industry use cases, from finance to entertainment. FlashBlade//S is built in such a way that its distinguishing features, within backup, storage, recovery and security, translate smoothly into an ever-expanding array of intensive usage scenarios, Burr explained.

“We’re only going wider and broader. We’ve talked in the past about having a horizontal approach to this market since the unstructured data market has often had vertical specificity,” he added.
