Guild Education partners with Snowflake for increased data security

Snowflake Inc.’s new cybersecurity workload for cloud data platforms is poised to tackle threats across multiple platforms, from traditional data centers to cloud-based data. It also takes on the increasing challenges of compliance and in-the-moment risk reporting.

Education and upscaling platform Guild Education Inc. recently implemented a Snowflake security data lake on AWS.

“Getting everything [we] needed in one place has been game-changing for my team,” said Julie Chickillo (pictured, right), vice president and head of security at Guild Education. “We were in many different security tools; they were all isolated, siloed. We’re now able to move everything into one area, and we’re getting close to the one pane of glass.”

Chickillo and Omer Singer (pictured, left), head of cybersecurity strategy at Snowflake, spoke with industry analysts Dave Vellante and Lisa Martin at Snowflake Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed data security and compliance. (* Disclosure below.)

Implementing data consolidation and compliance

There are endless security options out there, and different functions require industry-specific solutions. Rather than creating one security tool to fit myriad situations, Snowflake solves the challenge of tool consolidation by flipping the script and focusing instead on data consolidation.

“The tool consolidation doesn’t need to mean that you only have one tool. You can actually have best of breed, choose the tool you want. As long as the data’s consolidated, you’re not building more silos,” Singer said.

Data compliance standards are evolving and becoming more protective of user data. As data volume and variety increases, maintaining industry standards can be a challenge. But using a centralized data platform, like Snowflake, can streamline compliance routines.

“We hear about companies struggling to meet compliance requirements. Well, if all the data is already centralized, then I can prove to my auditors, once a day, that all the environment is in compliance with whatever standard I have,” Singer stated.
