ThoughtSpot aims to democratize the data stack with help from Snowflake

With technologies like Web3, quantum computing, artificial intelligence and 5G creating and consuming vast amounts of data, the ability to put data to use has never been more important. Last year, Snowflake Inc.’s venture capital arm, Snowflake Ventures, invested in ThoughtSpot Inc. to support its goal of making data analytics and AI available to everyone.

Building on the Snowflake Data Cloud, “we want to empower everyone to create, consume and operationalize data-driven insights,” said Kuntal Vahalia (pictured), senior vice president of worldwide channel and alliances at ThoughtSpot. “We think if end users can generate insights through live analytics, we could have a completely different operating model for a business.”

Vahalia spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Lisa Martin and Dave Vellante at Snowflake Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed ThoughtSpot’s partnership with Snowflake, the modern data stack, innovation through empowering end-users and more. (* Disclosure below.)

Driving innovation with data

ThoughtSpot’s Modern Analytics Cloud enables any business to derive insights by simply typing a query into a search engine. ThoughtSpot’s technology transforms questions into SQL queries that return relevant charts and statistics.

The company’s main goal is to help drive innovation at all operating layers of an organization by empowering end users using a dynamic search architecture. This changes the velocity of a business, according to Vahalia.

“We are now driving innovation at every node at every layer in the organization, not just smaller segments in the organization, but anywhere in any pocket,” he said.

ThoughtSpot’s partnership with Snowflake proved fruitful for both the companies and its users. Services like Matillion ETL for Snowflake allow enterprises to convert data into analytics-ready data for the cloud and are proof that the modern data stack is the right approach, according to Vahalia.

“We think between Matillion, Snowflake and ThoughtSpot, we could be the accelerated best-of-breed approach for customers to realize value from the modern data stack,” he said. “This concept of accelerating applications on top of the data cloud is also validation of what we’ve been trying to do over the last few years, which is to say that the data has been modernized, so let’s now drive consumption and adoption of that data.”
