Premium Google One accounts get extended video call features

Google LLC announced today that Google One users will get access to more premium Google Workspace features that were previously only available to those who subscribed to the latter service.

Google One is a subscription bundle aimed at consumers that provides them with access to additional storage capacity beyond the standard 15 gigabytes of space that comes with every Google account. It provides users with up to 2 terabytes of storage for use with Gmail, Google Photos and Google Drive.

The service also bundles additional goodies, including a tool that’s used to back up files on mobile devices, a built-in virtual private network for Android and iOS devices, and 10% cashback rewards on Google Play Store purchases.

In an effort to make Google One even more enticing, the company said subscribers will also gain access to enhanced video calling capabilities in Google Meet. Google is eliminating the pesky one-hour time limit on group video calls, allowing users to talk continuously for up to 24 hours instead. In addition, Google One users will gain access to premium Google Meet features, such as filters for background noise such as dogs barking and construction workers.

Users will also be able to securely record and store their calls on Google Drive, so they can share special moments such as virtual birthday celebrations, the company said in a blog post.

The additional features for Google One users are available now in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan and Mexico, with more countries coming soon, Google said. The company promised that Google One members will also get access to additional premium capabilities from Google Workspace in the near future, though it hasn’t said what or when.

What is clear is that Google seems intent on taking steps to make Google One a more attractive offering overall.
