Red Hat works to simplify and secure hybrid cloud solutions with new innovations

Hybrid cloud solutions are exceedingly popular, and it’s no surprise why — with the convenience of the cloud and the physical security and speed of on-premises, hybrid cloud is here to stay.

It’s not without its issues, however, with enterprises regularly running into complexities unique to hybrid cloud landscapes. Scattered workloads, security concerns and monolithic applications are just a few of the issues organizations face when deploying these solutions. Red Hat Inc. recently announced several new innovations, all seeking to simplify and secure hybrid cloud infrastructure.

“We’ve got customers, who’ve got committed spends that they have with cloud providers; they want to make sure that the environments that they’re using are also counting towards that at the same time,” said Ashesh Badani (pictured), head of products at Red Hat. “Give them flexibility, give them the choice, and in certain situations they want to run in the data center, great, we have that solution for them.”

Badani spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Paul Gillin during the recent Red Hat Summit event, an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed new Red Hat innovations, the increasing importance of hardware, simplifying hybrid cloud solutions and more. (* Disclosure below.)

Plugging security gaps

Security is, and always will be, one of the biggest priorities for any organization in any industry. One in 10 instances of open-source software has some form of security vulnerability in place, directing effecting development efforts, according to Badani.

“How do we make sure we move security closer to where development is done? How do we ensure we give you a pattern?” Badani asked. “We introduce a software supply chain pattern via OpenShift that delivers a complete stack of code that you can go off and run that follows best practices.”

Red Hat also announced a partnership with General Motors C0., which is working to enable more vehicles to securely connect to the edge.

“We’re very keen to say that we believe there are a lot of attributes that we’ve got in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) that we can bring to bear in a different form factor to assist with the different needs that exist in this industry,” Badani said. “The opportunity to be able to say, we can get open-source technology, we can collaborate out with the community to fundamentally help transform that industry towards where it wants to go. That’s the passion that we have that wakes us up every morning.”
