Automated quality assurance startup QA Wolf launches with $20M in funding

Automated quality assurance startup QA Wolf Inc. today launched out of stealth mode with $20.1 million in funding to scale up its team and expand its product experience.

Inspired Capital led the round with Notation Capital, CoFound and several individual investors including Peter Thiel also participating.

Founded in 2019, QA Wolf pitches itself as transforming the $40 billion software testing market with a unique combination of technology, automation and in-house expertise. The company says its “zero-effort” automated QA delivers 80% coverage in four months compared to typical rates of 50% in many companies.

QA Wolf works by getting to know apps and then building out a comprehensive plan, starting with critical flows. Once a plan is in place, QA Wolf codes end-to-end tests using Microsoft Corp.’s Playwright, a framework for web testing and automation that does not lock customers in.

As coverage is built out, QA Wolf integrates with existing development processes and starts running tests. The tests are run 100% in parallel with results delivered in minutes versus hours of days.

However, the process does not stop at testing alone with QA Wolf also investigating every single failure. In the event of a test code problem, they fix it, but if it’s a bug, they create a report that includes repro steps, a video record and logs to deliver a pure, actionable signal.

“With engineering talent more scarce and expensive than ever before, development teams usually don’t have the time or expertise to write and maintain end-to-end tests in-house,” Jon Perl, co-founder and chief executive officer of QA Wolf, said in a statement. “We deliver a bespoke solution that doesn’t just assist but completes the job for our customers, guaranteeing high test coverage with as little effort as possible from their team’s engineering resources.”

While only today launching out of stealth, the company already has an extensive client base and has seen revenue grow over fivefold in the past nine months, though it didn’t disclose a specific number. Notable clients include Gumroad Inc., MainStreet Work Inc., Mailchimp, Possible, Replay and Padlet. QA Wolf customers run more than 250 automated tests every day, equating to more than 20 hours of manual testing per customer daily.
