McAfee Corp. today announced the launch of McAfee+, a new product line that encompasses privacy and identity protections designed to confidently and securely live life online.
The comprehensive new product suite gives users access to a raft of services: Personal Data Cleanup, always-on credit monitoring and reports, credit lock and security freezes, $1 million identity theft and stolen funds coverage, $25,000 ransomware coverage, identity restoration and the ability to secure devices with protection against threats and viruses.
As part of the new offering, McAfee has introduced protection for Chromebooks, making it the first leading security provider to support Chrome OS fully. With the service, Chrome OS users can install and access McAfee capabilities on their Chromebooks, including antivirus, virtual private networking, safe browsing and identity monitoring.
McAfee+ provides online protection, such as removing personal information from unnecessary and risky locations online, including people search sites and data broker sites that sell this information to advertising companies, hackers and other bad actors. The service also features proactive monitoring of the dark web for personal information along with the integration of McAfee’s antivirus products and Secure VPN.
The offer of identity theft protection is certainly a standout, with the $1 million in coverage covering identity theft, stolen funds and the restoration of identity in case of identity theft. The $25,000 ransomware coverage may only assist individual users or very small companies, but it’s also a nice add-on to the package.
“As the internet has become an increasing part of consumers’ daily lives there is growing concern about the amount of personal data that is accessible to bad actors and a lack of understanding about how to remove and secure personal information,” Gagan Singh, executive vice president and chief product and revenue officer at McAfee, said in a statement. “McAfee+ is designed to deliver against those trends and threats, by helping users be more protected against identity breaches and proactively removing their information from the web to minimize future threats.”
McAfee+ offers three different plans: Premium, Advanced and Ultimate. The McAfee+ Ultimate plan is the only plan with insurance coverage and includes other features such as unlimited VPN access and credit monitoring and alerts from three major bureaus.
McAfee+ is initially available only in the U.S., with plans to launch the service in the U.K., Canada and Australia in the coming weeks. McAfee+ Premium is $49.99 for the first year, Advanced $89.99 and Ultimate $199.99. After the first year, the prices go to $139.99, $199.99 and $279.99.
