CloudFix and AMD identify low-hanging fruit in the cloud for cost optimization

With cost being a big issue in the cloud, cost optimization has become more critical for businesses, especially as the market takes a downturn.

A partnership between CloudFix and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. approaches cost optimization differently, with a nonstop, automated system, according to Brad Smith (pictured, right), corporate vice president of sales at AMD.

“From the AMD side right now, one of the things they do very quickly is identify where the low-hanging fruit is,” Smith said. “So [for] x86 compatibility, you can shift instance types instantly in most cases without any change to your environment at all. And CloudFix has an automated tool to do that … you can immediately have an impact on your cost without having to do any work at all. And customers love that.”

Smith and Rahul Subramaniam (pictured, left), chief executive officer of CloudFix, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Savannah Peterson at AWS re:Invent, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how CloudFix has partnered with AMD to boost cost optimization in the cloud through automation. (* Disclosure below.)

Choice matters when it comes to cloud solutions

Since price performance is critical, the CloudFix-AMD partnership provides cost optimization based on ideal cloud choices, according to Smith. Therefore, enterprises can enhance efficiency on the foundation of the decisions they make in the cloud, he explained.

“The idea of efficiency and cost optimization is near and dear to our heart,” he stated. “We are the leaders in x86 price performance, density and power efficiency. The message we’re giving to everybody is choice matters very much when it comes to your cloud solutions, and just deciding what type of instance types you choose can have a massive impact on your bottom line. So we are excited to partner with CloudFix; they’ve got a great model.”

Automation plays an instrumental role in enabling businesses to stay on top of things. For instance, it helps free up mundane tasks in the cloud environment, according to Subramaniam.

“So just kind of freeing up your developer’s time from doing this stuff that’s mundane, and it’s a standard best practice,” he noted. “One of the things that we leverage AMD for is they’ve helped us define the process of seamlessly migrating folks over to AMD-based instances without any major disruptions or trying to minimize every aspect of disruption. So all the best practices are kind of borrowed from AWS in most other cases.”
