Transformative tech: Demand for cloud-native capabilities expands to more than meets than eye

For nearly a decade, the global cloud community has come together to improve enterprise technology, and by extension, the world.

As demand for faster delivery, flexibility, scalability and resilience increases, so does the competition. The main way businesses optimize their cloud-native capabilities is by collaborating with a cloud partner. Since bundling together not only their technology but also their resources, industry leaders Red Hat Inc. and Amazon Web Services Inc. have rocketed to the forefront of cloud computing innovations and delivering business strategies.

“I think that relationship, that innovation on the product side, that’s pretty visible,” said Manu Parbhakar (pictured, left), worldwide head of strategic partnership at AWS. “I think that innovation again then translates into what we are doing on Marketplace with one-click deployments. I think the third aspect of the innovation is around making sure that we are making our partners and our customers successful.”

Parbhakar and Joel Jackson (pictured, right), vice president of worldwide technology sales and go-to-market at Red Hat, spoke with theCUBE analysts Savannah Peterson and Dave Vellante at the recent AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. They discussed the pursuit of a hybrid cloud strategy and how the two companies are capitalizing on their lead position in the public cloud market. (* Disclosure below.)

How does one codify what’s next on the leading edge of cloud computing technology? Those who are informing the roadmap for both Red Hat and AWS are the power users both at the developer level and those who are actually doing large commercial consumption, according to Parbhakar.

AWS’ focus is aligned with Red Hat’s, according to Jackson, including making customers and partners successful through dedicated commitment, massive product improvements, and enhancing the hybrid model.

“You place a lot of small bets,” Jackson said. “Do you have the innovation engine to do that? AWS is the perfect place to place those small bets. And then … pour gas on the fire when they take off.”

As advocates for a customer-driven product strategy, the industry giants provide an open-source solution to product improvement queries, Jackson added.

“We’re going to also come out with a hybrid committed spend program for our customers that meet them where they want to go,” he stated.
