BIG DATA

Making data accessible and actionable for better decision-making

Since the digital landscape has become more complex, organizations need actionable data governance to make finding data easier.

As a hyper flexible platform, Talend Inc. makes data accessible and actionable by integrating different sources, thus enhancing the speed to market and cutting costs, according to Monte Denehie (pictured, right), principal AWS alliance manager at Talend.

“In this day and age, everything we see, we touch, we do, we either use data or we create data,” Denehie said. “We literally are data. And so then what you end up with is all these disparate data silos and different applications with different data, and how do you bring all that together? What we do is we bring it all together, and we make it actionable for the customer.”

Denehie and Sam Pierson (pictured, left), chief technology officer at Talend, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Savannah Peterson and Paul Gillin at the recent AWS re:Invent conference, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the need for data to be actionable for better decision-making and how Talend fits into the picture. (* Disclosure below.)

Emphasis on cost optimization

Since cost optimization is at the heart of Talend, it accelerates the speed of getting a product to market. This plays an instrumental role in propelling patient outcomes in, for instance, the healthcare sector. This is attained by presenting the right data, according to Denehie.

“AstraZeneca leveraged our platform along with AWS,” he stated. “And they said for every dollar that they spend on data initiatives, they get $40 back. That’s a billion dollars savings by getting a drug to market one month faster.”

The Talend-AWS partnership has made data integration a reality, according to Pierson, who said that the company has more than 80 connectors with AWS.

“I think from our product standpoint, being able to put any source of data to any type of different destination — so things like Redshift — being able to bring data into those cloud data warehouses is really how we do that. Bringing data from A to B, we’re also able to do that along a number of different dimensions,” he stated.
