Data automation startup Ascend.io enables multicloud data mesh capabilities

Ascend.io, a data automation startup officially known as Ascension Labs Inc., said today it’s introducing new data mesh capabilities within its Data Pipeline Automation Platform, making it easier for companies to share and link data from across multiple public clouds via a single console.

Ascend’s Data Pipeline Automation Platform, as the name suggests, is all about automating the pipelines that link disparate data systems and analytics tools. Ascend makes it easier for companies to build and maintain data pipelines, reducing the amount of custom code required by around 90%.

It offers a collection of prepackaged connectors that companies can use to retrieve information from databases and other systems, and makes it easier for teams to build their own custom data connectors if needed. In addition, Ascend’s platform provides tools for filtering data for erroneous information and duplicate entries.

The new data mesh features announced today are all about helping teams package their data into products that can easily be consumed and reused across an organization, Ascend said, with full lineage so users know the source of the information, and can check that it’s current and accurate.

Ascend says its platform is the first to offer this capability across multiple cloud platforms, made possible by its extensible architecture that supports Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and the open-source Apache Spark data framework. Also essential is Ascend’s proprietary fingerprinting technology, built into its DataAware Control Plane, which makes it possible to link code and data together to track lineage. By combining these two technologies, Ascend says, it’s the first data pipeline platform that can fully track, automate and optimize data as it traverses multiple platforms and clouds.

Founder and Chief Executive Sean Knapp (pictured) said this capability will prove invaluable because the vast majority of companies today use multiple cloud data platforms, and so they suffer from a lack of visibility across teams and lost lineage.

“Ascend for Data Mesh pulls these fragmented silos together and companies that are rapidly scaling can continue reaping the same benefits of Ascend’s Data Pipeline Automation Platform, regardless of how many teams or compute engines are involved,” Knapp said. “A new team and data cloud can be added in less than a minute, and engineers can be contributing to the mesh in less than three minutes.”

Ascend’s new data mesh capabilities are available within the Ascend Data Pipeline Automation Platform starting today.
