Access abuse security startup Inside-Out Defense launches with funding from Bain & Co.
Cybersecurity startup Inside-Out Defense today launched from stealth mode with an undisclosed amount of funding from Bain & Co. Inc. to provide real-time detection and remediation to privilege access abuse.
Inside-Out Defense is a software-as-a-service, agentless privilege access abuse detection and remediation platform built for what it calls “Continuous Validation of Trust.” The platform complements existing identity access management, privilege access management and custom identity solutions. It determines the gaps between known and unknown abuse behaviors, stopping privilege abuse in real-time and at scale.
The company argues that 99% of all cyber breaches are the result of human error, emphasizing privilege abuse through a compromised identity or malicious insider. Today’s cybersecurity market is said to be flushed with point solutions that only look for a few known privilege abuse signatures and are reactive, detecting the abuses days to only months after the event. Inside-Out Defense claims existing industry solutions have focused on plugging access vulnerabilities instead of breaking the attack chains.
“Industry recognizes that privilege access abuse is at the foundation of most cyber breaches,” co-founder and Chief Executive Ravi Srivatsay said ahead of the announcement. “Without the ability to see how access is used throughout the enterprise, [chief information security officers] and cybersecurity teams are blindsided by their biggest problem area. With today’s launch of Inside-Out Defense, we are answering the enterprise’s call for a holistic approach to staving off privilege access abuse, with the industry’s first platform to provide access intent, real-time detection, and in-line remediation.”
Key features of the Inside-Out Defense platform include real-time detection of privilege access abuse behaviors and in-line remediation of malicious privilege access through a kill switch. Customers gain access to a 360-degree profile of malicious access requests, their context and intent, offering a real-time view of the organization’s access posture.
The platform offers coverage across an entire organization, including infrastructure in the cloud and on-premises, as well as applications, application programming interfaces, and human and non-human users. The platform is claimed to complement existing customer security tooling, including IAM, PAM, SIEM and workflow tools, with noninvasive integration with customer environments.
Inside-Out Defense’s initial customers include global pharma, manufacturing, healthcare and fintech organizations. The company claims its product not only solves the most challenging access abuses in the digital supply chain but also saves millions of dollars thanks to potential breaches while eliminating the need for post-breach analysis and laborious access audits.
