DevOps cloud platform startup Render Services Inc. said today it has closed on a $50 million funding round, bringing its total amount raised to date to $76.8 million.

Today’s Series B round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners and included participation from existing backers such as Addition, General Catalyst and the South Park Commons Fund.

Render is the creator of a unified DevOps platform-as-a-service that enables developers to build and run all of their apps in the cloud, with free Secure Sockets Layer, a global content delivery network, private networks and auto-deployment options from Git. The platform aims to make modern cloud infrastructure accessible to application and frontend developers, while improving their productivity.

With Render, developers benefit from a simpler, more streamlined experience that allows them to focus on building their apps and shipping them out quickly, without concerning themselves too much with the underlying cloud infrastructure. It eliminates the unbound complexity of a platform such as Amazon Web Services. All developers have to do is connect a GitHub or GitLab repository, and Render will start suggesting commands to build, host and run the application.

The promise of making life easier for developers is a powerful one, and it helped Render to win the TechCrunch Disrupt Battlefield awards back in 2019, the same year it launched. According to Render, businesses can also make big savings using its platform, reducing cloud costs by up to 80%.

Render co-founder and Chief Executive Anurag Goel explained that the company’s focus has always been on making software developers more productive in the cloud, chiefly by eliminating their worries about managing the underlying infrastructure. “This round further validates our strategy of building an end-to-end cloud from the ground up,” he said.

Proving that point, Render pointed to a customer base of more than 500,000 developers using its platform to launch a total of more than 2 billion services through its cloud PaaS. Its client list includes Fortune 500 companies such as Watershed Technology Inc. and Red Bull GmbH. In the last year, developer signups have increased by 900%, while revenue jumped by more than 400%.

Bessemer Ventures partner Elliott Robinson said that what attracted him to Render is a product that delivers an outstanding developer experience with a robust feature set and the ability to support everything from simple web pages to complex enterprise applications. “We’ve been impressed by Anurag and his team’s technical leadership and proven track record, as well as the company’s strong market pull to-date,” he added.

Render said the funds from today’s round will enable it to accelerate its hiring plans and research and development efforts.
