HPE Aruba Networking widens net to include private 5G, SASE and data center networking

As the data market constantly evolves, enterprises are demanding differentiated experiences to meet their needs and preferences.

HPE Aruba Networking is responding by expanding its scope beyond Wi-Fi, Software-defined Wide Area Network and Campus LAN switching to include private 5G, Secure Access Service Edge and data center networking, according to Phil Mottram (pictured), executive vice president and general manager of HPE Aruba Networking at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.

“Networks and security are coming together,” he said. “We had two of the five elements with kind of network firewall and SD-WAN through Silver Peak. Then we bought an Israeli software company called Axis Security … and they give us DCN. So, we get a full SASE offering, and then the final area of expansion is the area of private 5G, where we bought a company called Athonet.”

Mottram recently spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Rob Strechay at HPE Discover, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed why HPE Aruba is a game changer in the networking and security fields. (* Disclosure below.)

HPE Aruba — a spring of innovations

Since HPE Aruba streamlines operations and delivers business outcomes through a cloud-native network management framework, it creates room for enhanced innovation. For instance, it is the brains behind the HPE GreenLake platform, according to Mottram.

“Aruba has been a very innovative company,” he stated. “They developed the Aruba Central platform, which has now got 2.7 million devices connected to it, 230,000 different users. That’s obviously what spawned the HPE GreenLake platform, the HPE GreenLake strategy.”

By merging networking and security, with a keen eye on secure connectivity, HPE Aruba seeks to enhance the SASE framework. As a result, it intends to be the go-to-market vendor when it comes to SASE, Mottram pointed out.

“What Gartner says … is that right now organizations are potentially picking five different suppliers for the five elements of the SASE framework,” he noted. “They believe that three years from now, 60% of organizations will want to buy all five elements from one player, and so we think there’s a great opportunity for HPE Aruba to be that player in the market. That was the kind of rationale behind the acquisition.”
