Harnessing insights from data as AI gains momentum

With data being the driving force in the enterprise world, it is emerging as a crown jewel in cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

Since companies are under constant pressure to make sense of growing amounts of data from disparate sources and operational silos, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. uses a set of intellectual assets and accelerators to speed up the time to value in data, according to Nidhi Srivastava (pictured, left), vice president and global head for the Google Business Unit at TCS.

“We have an offering called TCS Datom that does assessment of the maturity of data and gives actionable insights and a roadmap to drive data modernization,” she said. “There is another offering of ours, it’s a platform offering called Dexam, which is the data exchange marketplace which we offer on Google Cloud … it allows us to build data marketplaces for our clients.”

Srivastava and Anupam Singhal (right), president of manufacturing at TCS, spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Rob Strechay at the Google Cloud Next event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how TCS helps enterprises harness insights from data as AI continues to gain momentum. (* Disclosure below.)

Data is at the epicenter of the AI wave

As the AI wave hits, being ready from a data perspective is critical. This is because data is fueling AI adoption. TCS comes in handy through its advisory and support role, where it ensures that data is available, accessible and ethical, according to Srivastava.

“Data and AI are the two most spoken about words,” she stated. “What are customers dealing with? They’re dealing with organizational silos, they’re dealing with data integration issues, they’re dealing with data standardization issues, and most importantly data accuracy. That’s something that is really top of mind as the data and the AI wave really rides the momentum.”

Since the manufacturing sector generates significant data, marrying information technology and operational technology is needed for better insights. As a result, harnessing the multitude of data presented is a game-changer, according to Singhal.

“The ability to connect both IT and OT and creating that resiliency in the whole supply chain creates a very unique perspective in the manufacturing world,” he explained. “It’s our ability to connect this data and create meaningful insight for all the personas in the manufacturing ecosystem that is going to create the differentiation.”

Since more than 75% of TCS clients are increasing their investments in AI and data modernization, the cloud has accelerated this trend, according to Srivastava. As a result, the cloud is a notable unifying fabric because it permits significant testing and experimentation.

“The pandemic proved the business case of cloud, and we’ve seen cloud adoption really pick up across all our sectors from an industry perspective and regionally too,” she said. “What the cloud wave did was that it enabled the move of the data to the cloud, and not only did it deliver on cost efficiency, but it also set the path for data modernization. Cloud is indeed the unifying digital fabric.”
