

EnterpriseDB Corp., which sells a commercial version of the popular open-source PostgreSQL database management system, today said it’s making Trusted Postgres Architect available as open source under the GNU General Public License v3.
TPA is a tool for automating the deployment and configuration of high-availability Postgres clusters. It automates much of the complexity of cluster deployment by automating the process from installation to ongoing management. TPA handles setting up, adjusting and overseeing both free, community-curated open-source tools and EDB’s commercial high-availability products.
Users can use it to experiment with different cluster architectures and components and create high-availability clusters with a few keystrokes, the company said. TPA manages cluster health to optimize performance and reliability with minimal downtime. Configuration parameters can be stored to enable identical clusters to be deployed for test or scaling.
The tool is based on architectures designed and tested for disaster recovery, replication and protection against common replication problems by EDB, which claims to have the largest concentration of Postgres technologists and developers.
The software helps minimize downtime during changes and software configuration updates. It can achieve near-zero downtime when used in combination with EDB’s Postgres Distributed architecture with ”active-active” technology, which uses a network of independent processing nodes that each have access to a common replicated database.,
“This tool will empower organizations to establish and manage robust database clusters with confidence, ultimately enhancing operational resiliency and minimizing errors,” Carl Olofson, a research vice president at International Data Corp., said in a prepared statement.
EDB’s previous open-source contributions include the CloudNativePG operator for Kubernetes and numerous elements of PostgreSQ® 15. The company pledged to announce additional contributions to PostgreSQL 16 later this month.
