The need for a cloud-first strategy: How Teradata and AWS are migrating analytic workloads for better insights

With modernization being top of mind for enterprises, the cloud is emerging as a safe bet.

To enable highly scalable analytic insights, Teradata Corp. is enabling fast and reliable data migrations to the cloud — in partnership with Amazon Web Services Inc., according to Nimit Jain (pictured, left), head of artificial intelligence at AWS. Teradata’s Vantage platform is integrated with dozens of AWS services, including Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Kinesis.

“If you look at the Teradata’s Vantage platform, it is optimized to run on AWS for any kind of workloads,” Jain said. “For customers who want deeper insights to unlock from their data sets, we have ClearScape integrated with AWS SageMaker for deeper insights, and we also have plans to integrate with Amazon Bedrock, which is our new generative AI offerings, which is an API-driven service.”

Jain and Mike Hutchinson (right), chief customer officer of Teradata, spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rebecca Knight and Rob Strechay at Possible 2023, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the Teradata-AWS partnership and how it accelerates cloud migration and enhances data analytics. (* Disclosure below.)

The tagline is better together

Since the Teradata Vantage platform is a complete data and cloud analytics platform, it accelerates the better-together narrative based on its collaboration with AWS, according to Hutchinson. As a result, enterprises enjoy more scalability and flexibility

“If you really kind of think about it, that better together really starts with the integration of our engineering teams,” Hutchinson noted. “AWS has tons of fantastic native integrations that our customers want and need, working together with Teradata engineering team so that they can be seamlessly accessed through the Vantage platform. We are together through the engineering all the way through the delivery out to the customer experience, every day, 24/7.”

With the artificial intelligence wave taking the world by storm, thanks to innovations, such as ChatGPT, the Teradata-AWS partnership is geared toward enabling businesses get the best out of it. As a result, rapid innovations are heavily embedded through teamwork, Jain pointed out.

“If you look at Teradata, AWS have been really working together to transform AI/ML opportunities for customers, with high return on investments,” he stated. “Customers are able to experiment very fast because of the integration with ClearScape and our SageMaker. In summary, Teradata and AWS are driving customers in their AI/ML journey across the lifecycle starting from data preparation to model training, to model deployment.”
