Aon embarks on hyperautomation odyssey in partnership with UiPath

When Gartner Inc. published its top technology trends for 2020, hyperautomation was at the top of its list. It is a trend a number of companies have embraced since including the global professional services firm Aon PLC.

Designed to build on the success of robotic process automation, hyperautomation brings together AI, process mining, analytics and other advanced tools. It is also one of the key areas of expertise for Aon’s strategic partner UiPath Inc.

“The new journey that we introduced is about hyperautomation,” said Leyla Delic (pictured, right), global head of value realization at Aon. “Standardize the processes when you can, capitalize on our systems, leverage AI/ML capabilities and that’s where UiPath becomes a big part of our foundation. We are leveraging UiPath as a platform of a multitude of capabilities…intelligent document processing, communications mining [and] process mining.“

Delic spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Dave Vellante and Rebecca Knight at the UiPath FORWARD event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. She was joined by Tais O’Dwyer (left), vice president, global banking and financial services industry, at UiPath, as they discussed Aon’s work in hyperautomation and how to implement it successfully. Engaging the workforce

Hyperautomation includes the deployment of AI capabilities and automated process discovery tools to measure the ROI of automation. It also focuses on engagement capabilities and ways that members of the workforce can contribute to build the business.

“It’s important to remember that this is additive,” O’Dwyer said. “Nobody goes to work thinking: ‘I can’t wait to process that form over and over and over again.’ What we have in our employees that’s really valuable is their minds, their ability to think critically, their judgment, how they think about the customer. This really gives them the ability to focus most of their attention on those aspects of their work.”

Not to be forgotten in the hyperautomation process is the role of data in identifying and automating business processes with an evolving set of increasingly more sophisticated AI tools.

“It’s all about making better decisions, informed decisions and better advice to help our clients make better decisions,” Delic said. “That relationship is so personalized, so unique, and we rely heavily on data. We know the value of the data and we know how we can use that data to serve our clients better.”
