What to expect during the SC23 event: Join theCUBE Nov. 13-16

The annual SuperCompute event is “a hardware nerd-fest of the top minds,” according to theCUBE host and industry analyst John Furrier.

The conference is a chance to examine the present and the future of high-performance computing, made all the more relevant due to the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. From Nov. 13 to 16, during the SC23 event, theCUBE analysts will be watching for use cases on the new demands for hardware and infrastructure to power generative AI technologies. Developers will also be watching closely, looking for details about how DevOps is being impacted by gen AI and how that’s playing out for supercomputing markets.

Last year, a number of large announcements were made during the event — among many others, Nvidia Corp. introduced new high-performance computing solutions for researchers and Cerebras Systems Inc. unveiled an AI supercomputer that can perform one quintillion operations per second — and more announcements surely will follow this year. The conference represents the leading edge of what can be delivered to the world, according to David Nicholson, industry analyst for theCUBE.

“You can toss out facts and figures, like performance measured in exaflops, millions of CPU cores working together,” he said. “What makes this show unique is it’s not just a bunch of vendors. It’s academia; it’s a very different vibe.”

During the event, theCUBE industry analysts will talk with industry experts as they explore the latest from the world of high-performance computing. Join theCUBE from Nov. 13 to 16 for our coverage of the SC23 event, live on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. (* Disclosure below.)

Hardware strategy results

Another notable announcement at SC22 was Dell Technologies Inc. unveiling its PowerEdge XE9680 system. Earnings this year for Dell have been marked by strong demand for servers customized for AI workloads, with the company adding that AI-related hardware accounted for about 20% of server revenues in the quarter, led by the PowerEdge XE9680.

“Artificial intelligence is a strong tailwind for all things data and compute, as well as client solutions, when you think about the potential for workstations and eventually all PCs,” said Charles King, chief analyst at Pund-IT Inc., in August.

For Dell, remote work meant booming work. But as the world exited the isolation economy, the ISG business picked up and became the profit driver as PC demand significantly declined, theCUBE industry analyst Dave Vellante noted in March.

“On balance, Dell is proving that it can successfully execute on a strategy that is hardware-heavy but relies on supply chain efficiency, customer trust and strong financial discipline,” Vellante said at the time.

Broadcom Inc., meanwhile, reported growth in August across its core segments, with semiconductor solutions accounting for $6.941 billion in the quarter, up 5% year-over-year. Those results were driven by demand for next-generation networking technologies as hyperscale customers scale out and network their AI clusters within data centers, Hock Tan, president and chief executive officer of Broadcom, wrote in the company’s earnings release.

Learning the latest

Much like last year, SC23 is sure to bring with it new product announcements as the top minds in high-performance computing gather together. There are likely to be partnerships on display as well, such as Dell’s collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. to drive its PowerEdge products.

“The enterprise ecosystem has become extremely complex,” Raghu Nambiar, corporate vice president and chief technology officer of AMD, said last November. “People are running traditional workloads like relational database management systems — also a new generation of workloads with HPC augmented with some of the AI technologies. What customers are looking for is an out-of-the-box experience. Time to value is extremely critical.”

Such discussions will be explored during the SC23 event. TheCUBE will provide full coverage of the event to capture all the breaking news and provide analyst-driven commentary on the latest in high-performance computing. You can follow theCUBE’s wall-to-wall coverage for firsthand insights.
