How Atea and HPE are pioneering eco-friendly digital transformation

In today’s business landscape, it is crucial for companies to prioritize sustainability by embracing digital transformation. And artificial intelligence is now a major piece of the puzzle.

By adopting sustainable practices, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises can enhance their competitiveness and appeal to customers and investors who prioritize these values. But how do companies make sure that AI itself is as sustainable as possible?

“The biggest question … is how are you going to use [AI], because if you’re using it to actually drive sustainability, to align your company business strategy to your net-zero strategies, and using sustainability to power that … it’s a fairly easy calculation,” said Chiara Selvetti (right), director of sustainable business at Atea Group, an IT service provider.

Selvetti and John Frey (pictured, left), chief technologist of sustainable transformation at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co., spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rob Strechay and Rebecca Knight at the HPE Discover Barcelona event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how HPE and Atea are helping organizations develop sustainable IT strategies for digital transformation. (* Disclosure below.)

Creating sustainable IT and efficient resource management

Atea and HPE are collaborating to integrate sustainability into IT solutions, combining HPE’s technological expertise with Atea’s role in bringing these solutions to customers, and focusing on sustainable IT practices in areas like decarbonization, circular economy and efficient use of resources.

“Atea is a channel partner of HPE and other leading technology companies,” Selvetti said. “We bring solutions to public sector customers and private sector customers in the Nordics to help customers manage their IT infrastructure, to help them get this data to turn into insights and therefore drive their strategies. And, of course, to help them manage the workplace of their employees so that the employees become very efficient.”

Organizations are concerned about achieving greater efficiency and net zero, but there is a lack of guidance on the topic, according to Frey. HPE provides resources to help organizations develop a sustainable IT strategy as part of their digital transformation.

“The next wave of people that are going to be running these infrastructures aren’t taught about efficiency academically — it’s not been a topic you could even buy a book on,” said John Frey (pictured, left), chief technologist of sustainable transformation at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. “Most people that are in this space have learned by doing, which is one of the reasons that HPE writes the white papers and customer workbooks to help them on the journey. The goal is to get a sustainable IT strategy as part of your digital transformation strategy.”
