Elon Musk, Groq and the AI revolution: Insights from theCUBE

It’s been a whirlwind of artificial intelligence-related happenings lately, from new Amazon Web Services Inc. hardware and product announcements to Cribl Inc.’s maturity as a multi-product data engine for IT and security.

During this week’s Supercloud 5 event, theCUBE analysts unwrapped the latest in AI enterprise news.

TheCUBE analysts Savannah Peterson (pictured, left) and co-host Lisa Martin (right) discussed a whirlwind of AI hot-button topics, ranging from the unexpected musings of Elon Musk to the bold marketing tactics of AI chip company Groq — and even a delightful dive into the world of pupcakes.

Groq delights with new LLM … but not without a Musk-y undertone

In the latest instance of Musk expressing his right to free speech, the Tesla Inc. CEO and former OpenAI Inc. board member revealed some concerns about AI’s unprecedented pace of growth and the potential ramifications on privacy, data use and consumer protection. The implications of Musk’s statements, coupled with his historical role in shaping OpenAI, added a dramatic twist to the ongoing AI saga.

Not to be outshone, AI solutions provider Groq made headlines with an ironically timed “cease and de-Groq” message to Musk for trademark infringement after naming his xAI large language model “Grok.”

“For anyone who’s been served a cease-and-desist like I have working in 3D printing and a lot of other industries, there’s a real gut check, and a little bit of a belly drop when you get something telling you … accusing you of cheating or theft or infringement,” Peterson said. “I’m curious to see since they decided to pick that fight this afternoon, probably just about two hours before Elon decided to pick a fight with half the planet.”

Wrapping the segment was a demo of Groq’s flagship Llama-2 70B large language model, which took an unexpected turn when the query delivered recipes for the popular pet treat “pupcakes.” The demonstration was as entertaining as much as it was educational, showed the AI’s ability to generate real-time responses, including a recipe for pupcakes.

Previewing upcoming coverage on theCUBE during Supercloud 5, Peterson outlined a diverse lineup of guests in the AI, supercomputing and the automotive industry.

“We’ve got an astronomer coming on tomorrow; that’s a big part of AI,” she said. “We’ve also got Toyota,” as well as Dave Donatelli, who will be talking about the digital employee experience and why it’s more important than ever.
