Intel Corp. today announced the formation of an independent company named Articul8 AI that will offer enterprise customers generative artificial intelligence software capabilities with backing from digital infrastructure investment firm DigitalBridge Group Inc.
Articul8 AI, pronounced “Articulate AI,” will provide full-stack generative AI platform support, Intel said, that will keep customer data, training and inference securely within enterprise cloud, on-prem or hybrid deployments. This will allow customers a choice of how, where and when to set up their environments.
The new company grew from earlier work between Intel and work on generative AI with the global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group Inc. Using Intel’s supercomputer hardware, Intel built a generative AI foundation model trained on BCG’s own proprietary data capable of reading and understanding long lists of multi-page documents.
“Our collaboration began nearly two years ago while the venture was still in the incubation stage at Intel,” said Rich Lesser, global chair of BCG. “Since then, we have deployed Articul8 products for multiple clients seeking production-ready platforms with rapid time to market.”
The same team took the knowledge learned during that experience and scaled the platform up to enterprise performance levels to support specialized knowledge bases that require high levels of security such as financial services, aerospace, semiconductors and telecommunications.
Arun Subramaniyan, formerly vice president and general manager in Intel’s Data Center and AI Group, will become the chief executive officer of Articul8.
“With its deep AI and [high-performance computing] domain knowledge and enterprise-grade GenAI deployments, Articul8 is well-positioned to deliver tangible business outcomes for Intel and our broader ecosystem of customers and partners,” said Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. “As Intel accelerates AI everywhere, we look forward to our continued collaboration with Articul8.”
This announcement follows news that Intel planned to spin out its programmable chip unit as a standalone business, the Programmable Solutions Group, with the intent of an initial public offering in two to three years. Mobileye Global Inc., Intel’s self-driving car technology company, went public in Oct. 2022 at a $17 billion valuation.
