Clicks aims to redefine mobile interaction through creator keyboard
Clicks Technology Ltd. is looking to reshape the landscape of smartphone typing with a fresh take on haptic technology.
With touchscreen keyboards such an integral part of the world, Clicks has emerged with a tactile experience that bridges the gap between traditional button input and modern touchscreen interfaces. Clicks’ new smartphone keyboard accessory is redefining the boundaries of haptic hardware and paving the way for a more tactile and inclusive digital experience.
“It’s been an absolute tsunami,” said Jeff Gadway (pictured, left), senior vice president of marketing at Clicks. “We launched Clicks, the brand, the company, all at the same time. The response to the first keyboard for iPhone has been just unbelievable.”
Gadway and Michael Fisher (right), co-founder of Clicks, spoke with theCUBE analyst Savannah Peterson at MWC Barcelona, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Clicks’ new creator keyboard accessory for iPhones. (* Disclosure below.)
Crafting the future of haptic hardware
Clicks’ penchant for innovation and a team of industry veterans at its helm, including the industrial designer who built the original BlackBerry keyboards, is what drew the attention of Fisher and ignited a journey of groundbreaking development.
“When the opportunity came to contribute to a project that is the very definition of unconventional and special, I absolutely jumped at it,” Fisher said.
Gadway recounted the whirlwind journey from concept to reality for the device. With a team comprised of seasoned professionals, Clicks leveraged a wealth of expertise to expedite the development process.
“The depth of the team is just unprecedented for a hardware tech startup,” he said. “You’ve got people with consumer tech experience … combined with manufacturing experience. When it comes to building a keyboard in the most iPhone way possible, there isn’t a better team to have done it.”
Central to Clicks’ success is its meticulous attention to detail, evident in every facet of its design, according to Fisher and Gadway. The team meticulously fine-tuned each iteration, ensuring a seamless integration with the iPhone while preserving the essence of tactile interaction.
“We didn’t want to build a time machine. It was this healthy tension between how do you build something that people who love and appreciate keyboards from the past will gravitate towards,” Gadway said.
Clicks embodies a commitment to inclusivity, aiming to enhance accessibility for users with diverse needs. The device’s potential to empower individuals with visual impairments or mobility challenges highlights the transformative impact of technology on human lives, according to Gadway.
“If you look at the comments on Michael’s launch video, people saying, ‘I have a visual impairment’ or ‘I have some kind of a mobility challenge and this device is going to help me use my phone in a better way than I ever thought possible, that is really touching,” Gadway said.
The Clicks creator keyboard demo
After Fisher and Gadway’s discussion with Peterson, they stuck around to show how the Clicks creator keyboard worked in an exclusive demo.
“The minute the iPhone gets in there, you don’t have to install an app,” Fisher said, as he demonstrated how the device worked. “You just start typing and you have 36 polycarbonate keys on top of nickel-plated switches. You hit a couple of shortcuts like command-H, you can go home. You hit command-space bar, you can search for the app you want to open, hit Enter to open it.”
