Telecommunications transformation: Kyndryl’s vision for a sustainable 5G ecosystem
As the provider of information technology infrastructure services for more than a thousand companies across the globe, Kyndryl Inc. has a unique perspective on the current evolution happening in the telecommunications market.
One of the company’s biggest announcements last year was a private 5G solution for Nokia, and this year’s news looks to expand that 5G ecosystem with HPE.
“[We] continue to support our clients, as we’ve been advising them, and what we’re seeing in the market,” said Gretchen Tinnerman (pictured), general manager of telecommunications, media and technology at Kyndryl. “They’re asking for us to engage with other partners. As we do, we bring those skills on board and continue to evangelize those with our clients.”
Tinnerman spoke with theCUBE Research analysts John Furrier and Shelly Kramer at MWC Barcelona, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Kyndryl’s role in supporting telecommunications, the importance of a safe and inclusive work environment, and Kyndryl’s efforts in sustainable telecommunications. (* Disclosure below.)
Leading sustainable, data-driven telecommunications transformation
With so many partners across the globe, Kyndryl can study and observe trends closely as they emerge and take over the telecommunications world. The three biggest trends observed in the past couple of years are sustainability, data and transformation, according to Tinnerman.
“Kyndryl is a great story for our clients on transformation. We refer to ourselves as customer zero,” she said. “We have spent our last two, two and a half years transforming our company. It’s a great example — and showing our clients the skills that we have to support that.”
Kyndryl is actively engaged in addressing sustainability challenges, focusing on assisting clients with data centers, climate control, power and consumption to support building a better planet. This priority reflects both the demands of its clients and the broader need for responsible environmental stewardship in resource-intensive services. Remaining sustainable and green is one of the highest priorities for the company’s clients, according to Tinnerman.
“Many of our clients have sustainability targets … and they know they have to do this for their future, for our future, as a planet,” she said. “We, ourselves, have a sustainability group to advise our clients on our own journey. And [we] meet the client where they’re at, building that sustainability roadmap for them to be at the table to talk about their data center strategy, power consumption, storage and tie that into sustainability.”
