The cloud landscape’s tectonics are shifting rapidly as organizations transition to a more agile cloud approach, where the provisioning and managing of applications are automated.

This shift toward a cloud operating model is not about a specific location, but instead focuses on delivering agility while maintaining governance and security, according to Brad Parks (pictured), chief product and marketing officer at Morpheus Data LLC.

“The cloud has been around forever, but there was that initial “lift-and-shift” debacle where people had pain around cost and doing it the wrong way,” he said. “Now they’re adopting more of that cloud operating model where they want to deliver agility to their developers but, at the same time, wrap governance and guardrails around how they’re dealing with things.”

Parks spoke with theCUBE Research executive analyst Rob Strechay, during a CUBE Conversation from SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio in Boston. They discussed the evolving cloud landscape, examining how Morpheus’ platform for hybrid cloud operations offers a solution for organizations to streamline their cloud management processes and unlock new opportunities for growth in the digital era. (* Disclosure below.)

Morpheus’ approach to an agile cloud

By focusing on platform operations, Morpheus has created a unified space where organizations can manage applications across various environments, including public cloud, private cloud, hosted cloud and the edge. This holistic approach encompasses multiple facets of IT, from development to security and finance operations, highlighting the convergence of different teams into a cohesive unit.

“It’s about the platform, It’s not about the place [or] an individual app,” Parks said. “It’s about a way of doing business or doing IT that represents public cloud, private cloud, hosted cloud, edge clouds, developers, security, finance and operations. It is all coming together in a melting pot, and that is what platform operations is all about.”

In light of macro trends such as market consolidation, exemplified by Broadcom Inc.’s acquisition of VMware Inc., organizations are reevaluating their cloud strategies. While VMware remains a significant player in the market, enterprises are seeking solutions that offer flexibility and freedom of movement across different cloud environments. Morpheus positions itself as a unified control plane, providing customers with the ability to manage diverse infrastructure seamlessly, according to Parks.

“I think the Broadcom acquisition of VMware has been a huge tailwind for us,” he said. “It’s also been a big challenge for a lot of customers. I love VMware … we have over a million [virtual machines] under management. But as customers are reevaluating how they think about their application footprint and their relationship with vendors, it’s definitely been a big tailwind for us.”

Rather than adhering to a strictly cloud-native strategy, many organizations are opting for a hybrid approach that accommodates a diverse set of workloads and data requirements. Central to Morpheus’ value proposition is its ability to simplify complex hybrid cloud operations while addressing the unique challenges of each customer.
