Microsoft debuts enterprise-focused Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6

Microsoft Corp. today debuted the Surface Pro 10 for Business and the Surface Laptop 6 for Business, the two latest additions to its line of enterprise-focused Windows computers.

The devices feature not only improved specifications but also new software. Workers can use a preinstalled program, called the Windows App, to quickly log into virtual desktops hosted in Azure. Administrators, in turn, can use a new Windows App IT Toolkit to configure employee devices as well as reset them when necessary.

Both the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 include chips from Intel Corp.’s latest Core Ultra notebook processor line. Each processor comprises multiple semiconductor modules, or chiplets, stacked atop one another. The module that contains logic circuits, the transistors responsible for running computations, is made using Intel’s newest seven-nanometer manufacturing process.

Each Core Ultra chip’s logic circuits are organized into three sets of cores. The first set is the fastest, while the second trades off some speed for increased power efficiency. Rounding out the lineup is a collection of so-called LP-E cores, which are designed to run the least demanding programs on a computer using a limited amount of electricity.

The Surface Pro 10 offers two processor options that both feature 12 cores. According to Microsoft, customers can order the tablet with 8 to 64 gigabytes of RAM and up to a terabyte of flash storage. The compute, storage and memory modules are housed in a case that mostly retains the design of the previous-generation Surface Pro, but includes multiple upgrades.

The Surface Pro 10’s screen is 33% brightness than its predecessor and features a new antireflective coating. Next to it is what Microsoft touts as the first personal computer camera with an ultrawide field of view. For added measure, the company’s engineers added a built-in NFC reader that makes it easier to use the Surface Pro with devices such as Yubico security keys.

Workers can use the device as a tablet or turn it into a laptop by adding a detachable keyboard. “We’ve added the Copilot key to all of our new Surface Pro keyboards, including a new version with a bold keyset5 with a larger font, high contrast and backlighting that make the keys more visible and easier for everyone to type,” Nancie Gaskill, general manager of Microsoft’s Surface business, detailed in a blog post

Like the Surface Pro 10, the new Surface Laptop 6 offers two  processor options from Intel’s Core Ultra lineup. But those chips offer more performance with 14 and 16 cores, respectively. Organizations can purchase the laptop with between 8 gigabytes and 64 gigabytes of RAM as well as up to a terabyte of flash storage.

The Surface Laptop 6 is available in two configurations. There’s a 13.5-inch version with a single USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port, a headphone jack and a charging port. It’s joined by a 15-inch model that adds another two additional USB ports as well as an optional smart card reader.

The Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 for Business will become available from $1,199 on April 9.
