Microsoft enhances Priva service with five new privacy management features

Microsoft Corp. today announced an expansion of its Priva privacy management service with new automated capabilities designed to help organizations meet privacy requirements related to personal data.

Launched in 2021, Priva is a privacy management solution offered by Microsoft that helps organizations proactively identify and protect against privacy risks, assist employees in making informed data handling decisions and automate subject requests at large scale.

Microsoft announced five new enhancements to Priva today, starting with Microsoft Priva Privacy Assessments. The solution automates the discovery, documentation and evaluation of personal data use across your entire data estate.

Priva Privacy Assessments automates the creation of privacy assessments, allowing users to discover and document personal data usage across an organization’s data estate through easily created custom assessments; monitor personal data usage, including monitoring for changes in data processing activities that require privacy compliance actions; and evaluate privacy risks using automated risk analysis based on the data usage information obtained from a privacy assessment.

The second release, Microsoft Priva Privacy Risk Management, is a service that simplifies the identification of unstructured personal data usage. Priva Privacy Risk Management allows users to automate risk mitigation through easily definable policies and can be used to build a privacy-resilient workplace by identifying personal data and critical privacy risks around it.

Microsoft Priva Tracker Scanning, the third release automates the discovery and categorization of tracking technologies — including cookies, pixels and beacons across all their websites. Using Tracker Scanning, organizations can remediate risks for tracker noncompliance, effectively monitor website compliance and easily address compliance issues.

The fourth release, Microsoft Priva Consent Management, provides a solution for bolstering an organization’s personal data consent management and publishing capabilities in a simplified and streamlined manner. The feature allows users to create customizable and regulatory-compliant consent models, streamline the deployment of consent models and create organization-specific layouts for consent models that conform to changing business needs.

The final release, Microsoft Priva Subject Rights Requests, enables organizations to automate the fulfillment of subject rights requests across their on-premises, hybrid and multicloud environments. Organizations can also manage the access, deletion and export of subject rights requests across their entire data landscape to help build trust with customers.

“Robust privacy solutions are essential for regulatory adherence and in cultivating a culture of transparency, accountability and respect for user privacy,” Herain Oberoi, general manager of data security, compliance and privacy at Microsoft, and Paul Brightmore, head of product at Microsoft Privacy, said in a blog post. “By embracing more robust privacy solutions, organizations not only fortify their defenses, but they also embark on a journey to forge enduring relationships with their customers — relationships based on mutual trust and data integrity.”
