Hitachi and GlobalLogic create ‘platform of platforms’ using unified gen AI approach
With generative artificial intelligence now assuming a pivotal role in the enterprise, the focus is shifting toward a unified gen AI approach. This strategy is becoming increasingly prevalent as it tackles pressing concerns including security, governance and trust.
By breaking new ground through enterprise-grade scalable gen AI in a corporate-responsible, cost-conscious and highly efficient way, Hitachi Ltd. has teamed up with GlobalLogic Inc. to unleash the potential of this cutting-edge technology through a unified platform, according to Srinivas Shankar (pictured, right), chief business officer and head of global industries at GlobalLogic.
“The reason why we’re here is we’re really excited to talk about how GlobalLogic and Hitachi are collaborating to create an enterprise-grade scalable generative AI platform that will be used broadly by the Hitachi Group of Companies,” Shankar said. “We’re calling this the platform of platforms, and we truly believe this is a next generation, first-of-a-kind platform of platforms to drive gen AI across a very large enterprise like Hitachi.”
Shankar and Sameshima Shigetoshi (left), director and chief technology officer of the Digital Systems & Services Division at Hitachi, spoke with theCUBE Research analysts John Furrier and Rebecca Knight at Google Cloud Next 2024, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how Hitachi and GlobalLogic utilizes a unified gen AI approach for boosted performance. (* Disclosure below.)
The unified gen AI approach boils down to a three-layered platform
As a fully-owned subsidiary of the Hitachi Group, GlobalLogic engineers intelligent products and platforms. As a result, the unified gen AI approach it develops with Hitachi helps in the rolling out of a three-layered platform that accelerates the adoption of gen AI across the board, according to Shankar.
“The essence is that we are building a unified platform,” he said. “It essentially is a set of foundational assets and capabilities that enable responsible, reliable, reusable implementation of gen AI across the enterprise. We are leveraging Hitachi Vantara’s hybrid cloud capabilities around reliability and observability to make sure that the platform is secure and reliable. That’s really the core of what this platform of platforms is.”
For the three-layered platform to work, a robust governance model is needed. As a result, Hitachi rolled out a Generative AI Center meant to boost productivity and value creation in the gen AI field, Shigetoshi pointed out.
“We recognize the utmost significance of governance to guarantee the safe and secure use of the AI in mission-critical fields,” he said. “To reinforce our commitment, we established a Generative AI Center last year May, gathering data scientists and AI researchers who have expertise in gen AI.”
Riding the gen AI wave has become the norm in the current enterprise world. As a result, Hitachi and GlobalLogic uses Google Cloud’s foundational stack to power up the three-layered platform, according to Shankar.
“We’re obviously leveraging, as I said, fit-for-purpose platforms and capabilities that Google Cloud offers like Vertex AI and Gemini Pro,” he explained. “We are actually starting to also understand which models serve what needs better. We have a real strong point of view around what’s good for legacy modernization, what’s good for conversational AI.”
