Cloudera and Red Hat team up to enhance AI cloud security

Through its partnership with Red Hat Inc., Cloudera Inc. looks to meet an increasing demand for artificial intelligence workloads with a stronger and more protected cloud infrastructure.

“The power of [Red Hat] OpenShift elasticity and the combination of our streaming solutions provide [customers] an elastic solution that is cloud-native,” said Karthik Krishnamoorthy (pictured, left), vice president of product at Cloudera. “It not only starts with OpenShift, but also expands fully into a hybrid architecture in the future as well.”

Krishnamoorthy and Arne Arnold (right), senior principal product manager, RHEL workloads, at Red Hat, spoke with theCUBE’s Rebecca Knight and Paul Gillin at Red Hat Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Cloudera and Red Hat’s ongoing partnership and delivering secure experiences for customers. (* Disclosure below.)

Cloudera’s Karthik Krishnamoorthy and Red Hat’s Arne Arnold explain how their partnership simplifies the data pipeline experience.

A long and fruitful partnership

As part of its partnership with Red Hat, Cloudera has built operators for its Data in Motion services, allowing companies to easily deploy Apache NiFi data flows on OpenShift. The company is also shifting to Red Hat Linux Enterprise AI, or RHEL AI, on its public cloud and phasing out its previous operating system.

“It is pretty slam dunk and straightforward,” Krishnamoorthy said of the transition. “Red Hat makes it easy for customers to even move from CentOS to RHEL … a lot of these customers want a secure operating system because that’s what InfoSec policies mandate.”

With RHEL AI, Cloudera’s platform will be more secure, according to Krishnamoorthy. The close partnership with Red Hat means that Cloudera can begin testing beta versions of Red Hat products to ensure reliability upon release.

“Security is about the entire supply chain; it’s about the entire stack,” said Arnold, emphasizing the value of collaboration. “In the end, it’s a joint go-to-market to the customer, really focusing on the business need, which is served by the private Cloudera Data Platform and then underpinned by the infrastructure which Red Hat provides.”
