Raspberry Pi enhances AI capabilities with Hailo partnership
Artificial intelligence-focused chipmaker Hailo Technologies Ltd. announced today that Raspberry Pi Ltd. will use it to provide AI accelerators for the Raspberry Pi AI Kit, Raspberry Pi’s AI-enabled add-on for Raspberry Pi 5.
The partnership between the two companies is aimed at helping professional and enthusiast creators alike to elevate their projects and solutions in home automation, security, robotics and beyond, with advance capabilities.
Raspberry Pi needs little introduction. The company makes low-cost, small-form-factor computers that allow people to explore computing and learn programming languages. The Raspberry Pi AI Kit offers hardware and software tools to help enthusiasts and developers build and deploy AI projects, leveraging its computing capabilities for applications such as object recognition and voice processing.
The Raspberry Pi AI Kit is designed for the latest Raspberry Pi 5. It includes the recently announced Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ expansion board and the Hailo-8L M.2 AI acceleration module with up to 13 tera-operations per second of inferencing performance. The solution is integrated with Raspberry Pi’s camera software stack and supports numerous out-of-the-box AI applications through Hailo’s software suite and models.
The Hailo-8L AI accelerator, featuring 13 TOPS provides advanced AI processing capabilities for entry-level devices, enabling real-time, low-latency and energy-efficient AI inferencing. The accelerator is said to significantly outperform all other edge processors and is easy to scale thanks to its already being in production and used by more than 300 Hailo customers worldwide.
Hailo says the collaboration marks a milestone for its AI accelerators and its ability to serve a larger audience. As part of the collaboration, Hailo is also introducing a new online developer community featuring tutorials, FAQs and other resources to foster innovation among creators and developers.
For Raspberry Pi, the partnership is seen as a way to broaden the capabilities of the Raspberry Pi for a wider audience.
“Our collaboration with Hailo enables Raspberry Pi’s industrial customers to integrate AI into high-performance solutions that are extremely cost-effective and power-efficient,” said Chief Executive Eben Upton.”For enthusiasts, the AI Kit provides an accessible way to enhance their creative projects with AI.”
Hailo is a venture capital-backed startup that has raised $340 million to date, according to Tracxn, including a round of $120 million in April. Investors in the company include Delek Capital Borrowers LP, Vasuki Technologies Pte. Ltd., OurCrowd International General Partner LP, Talcar Corp. Ltd., Comasco Ltd. and Poalim Equity Ltd.
