Rackspace expands OpenStack offerings with new enterprise-ready managed cloud solution

Cloud services provider Rackspace Technology Inc. today reaffirmed its commitment to the OpenStack cloud computing platform with the launch of OpenStack Enterprise, a fully managed, enterprise-ready cloud solution designed to ensure that critical workloads are secure and efficient and perform at large scale.

OpenStack began in 2010 as a joint project between Rackspace and the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration before its management was taken over by the OpenStack Foundation in 2012. OpenStack is an open-source cloud computing platform that enables the management of large pools of computing, storage and networking resources through a web-based dashboard or application programming interface.

Rackspace has continued to support OpenStack over the years to help businesses prioritize innovation over infrastructure with cloud flexibility at a lower cost than competitors. The support includes contributing more than 5.6 million lines of code to OpenStack as well as offering OpenStack support, including more than 1 billion server-hours operating production-ready OpenStack clouds at scale.

The new OpenStack Enterprise takes the commitment further, giving Rackspace customers additional support and expertise to ensure peak efficiency across their cloud environments.

“Our re-dedication to OpenStack tackles longstanding platform challenges by simplifying complexity and delivering a range of fully managed services that enhance accessibility,” said Josh Villarreal, general manager of OpenStack and Kubernetes at Rackspace. “We strongly believe in the impact of open source and the value of collaborative community efforts.”

OpenStack aims to cater to a wide range of customer needs, including security and compliance for sensitive data requiring the highest levels of protection and control, with data locality and sovereignty options. The technology also addresses cost efficiencies by offering a pathway to lower the total cost of cloud infrastructure.

Other OpenStack services allow for better application and data center modernization, allowing customers to migrate applications to the cloud without extensive changes and transition to fully managed solutions.

“We are empowering customers with industry-leading, enterprise-grade, open-source solutions that simplify infrastructure management and enable them to own their destiny, stay in control and modernize with the latest technological advances,” said Kevin Carter, a product director at Rackspace.
