Future-proofing data: Why resilience and adaptability matter in AI-driven storage

As the volume of data grows and the threat landscape evolves, organizations must invest in storage systems that keep their data secure, accessible and future-proof. Subsequently, data resilience and adaptability have become necessary for storage solutions, especially given today’s AI-driven world.

“How do you make sure that everybody’s getting necessary performance associated with that storage?” asked Drew Schulke (pictured, right), vice president of product management at Dell Technologies Inc.  “I’d say there’s another angle here in the age of AI that we need to be just very transparent about the thinking on evolution of the threat landscape. One that’s already pretty severe where you have ransomware attacks every 11 seconds and more than 80% of businesses have been impacted by some sort of security attack over the past 12 months.”

Schulke and Raphael Meyerowitz (left), vice president and partner of go to market at Presidio Inc., spoke with theCUBE Research’s Rob Strechay at the Smarter Storage for Tomorrow’s Opportunities event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how Dell PowerStore enables organizations to gain access to an AI-enhanced, future-proof platform that offers robust data storage and a comprehensive approach to data protection. Why data resilience and adaptability are vital in the AI age

The rise of AI has ushered in a new era of data demand and complexity. With AI applications increasingly dependent on large datasets, the need for always-on access to accurate and intact data has never been more pressing.

“Seventy-one percent of CIOs characterize AI threat levels as either very high or somewhat high within their organizations,” Schulze said. “We need to be conscious of that aspect of AI as well. Given all those unknowns of storage needs and the evolving threat landscape, it’s important to make sure we have future-proof systems. And that applies to resiliency as much as any other aspect of the platform.”

Businesses must prioritize storage solutions that can withstand both physical disruptions and cybersecurity threats. This “future-proof” approach is essential to maintaining data accessibility and integrity, especially as AI applications continue to grow, Schulze added.

One key advantage of integrating AI into storage systems is the potential for predictive capabilities. Dell uses AI within PowerStore to proactively identify and address issues, often before they even reach the customer’s attention. By leveraging Dell’s predictive analytics, Presidio can monitor storage arrays and pinpoint emerging challenges, reducing downtime and enhancing the efficiency of storage management, according to Meyerowitz.

“When you think about pinpointing issues across the stack within the storage array, a lot of that happens without the customer knowing about what’s happening, and Dell can mitigate some of those challenges before they do occur,” he said. “The other piece is predicting and preventing some of those issues from occurring in real time. That’s AI under the covers with Dell. And then when you put it together also, there’s no AI without data.”

Data resilience and adaptability are crucial for businesses to foresee and mitigate risks. In doing so, businesses can adopt a proactive stance toward data protection, offering a critical line of defense in today’s increasingly risky data landscape.
