Ruba Borno, vice president of global specialists and partnerships at Amazon Web Service Inc., talks to theCUBE during CUBEConversations 2024 about how the AWS Generative AI Accelerator program enables startups to be competitive and prosperous in the gen AI field. AI

AWS Generative AI Accelerator aims to empower startups to innovate, scale and transform industries

As artificial intelligence continues to surge, driving advancements in personalization, innovation and creativity, the AWS Generative AI Accelerator is designed to empower startups to ride this transformative wave.

By democratizing access to cutting-edge AI tools and infrastructure, the AWS Generative AI Accelerator serves as a catalyst, enabling startups to innovate, scale and thrive in the fiercely competitive generative AI landscape, according to Ruba Borno (pictured), vice president of global specialists and partnerships at Amazon Web Service Inc.

“It is really interesting to just kind of step back and look at the big picture of where we are with generative AI — it’s not just a buzzword,” Borno said. “In June this year, AWS announced a commitment of $230 million to accelerate the creation of generative AI applications by startups around the world. I’ll give you one example of a startup that’s in the Generative AI Accelerator, a company called Multiverse Computing out of Spain. They use quantum algorithms to improve energy efficiency and the cost of AI. One of the big things about AI is it is really heavy in terms of compute and energy needs.”

Borno spoke with theCUBE Research analyst John Furrier, during an exclusive interview on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how the AWS Generative AI Accelerator program enables startups to be competitive and prosperous in the gen AI field.

How the AWS Generative AI Accelerator program presents a competitive advantage

Since the AWS Generative AI Accelerator program is meant to make startups competitive, agile and innovative in a fast-paced digital world, it gives them a competitive edge, according to Borno. As a result, startups are able to innovate more rapidly and respond to market changes swiftly.

“Turbine AI is using foundation models for cancer cell biology to accelerate cancer development,” she noted. “You need AI innovation to be able to solve challenges like cancer cell biology, but you also need to make sure that we are taking care of the earth, doing it as energy efficiently as possible. It’s so important for us to continue to invest and see what incredible solutions are going to come out to help people and to help the planet.”

By being part of the AWS Generative AI Accelerator, startups gain access to a global network of peers, mentors and experts. As a result, this program enables startups to gain industry exposure needed to thrive in the gen AI field, according to Borno.

“The rich history that AWS has with startups goes back more than 18 years,” she explained. “We’ve helped more startups build, launch and scale than any other cloud provider. In fact, over 280,000 startups choose to run their businesses on AWS. We’re moving up the stack as we talk about Bedrock, which is our managed service that allows any customer to be able to access the Premier Foundation models or any foundation models that they need in order to use generative AI that best suits them.”

Given that partnerships accelerate innovation and help overcome the complexities associated with the development and implementation of disruptive technologies, they will play an instrumental role in ushering in the gen AI future. As a result, the focus is developing a vibrant AWS partner ecosystem, Borno stated.

“I think the future of generative AI and the future of technology is the partner network,” she said. “All of the solutions that you see there, adding value to customers, require multiple players. Whether it’s multiple technology vendors coming together with AWS. The future is partner oriented, and that’s why we’re continuing to double down our investment on partners.”
