Driving innovation in life sciences: How Bio-Rad and Persistent leverage AWS and AI for transformation

The life sciences and healthcare sectors are undergoing a digital transformation, driven by advancements in cloud infrastructure, life sciences, AI and more. Organizations are leveraging cutting-edge technologies to address complex challenges such as data privacy, regulatory compliance and scalability.

Those trends are central to the strategic collaboration between Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. and Persistent Systems Ltd. It’s a partnership that has sought to drive innovation, particularly in the development of advanced applications leveraging Amazon Web Services Inc. infrastructure, Amazon Q and generative AI.

“The life sciences industry is governed by strict regulations, including HIPAA and GDPR, making data privacy and compliance absolutely critical,” said Jasmina Desai (pictured, left), associate director of software architecture and development at Bio-Rad Laboratories. “At the onset of our project, the top priority was to build a secure, scalable environment, capable of managing sensitive customer data without sacrificing performance.”

Desai and Siddhartha Shrivastava (right), senior vice president at Persistent Systems, spoke with theCUBE Research’s Bob Laliberte for theCUBE’s “Cloud AWS re:Invent coverage,” during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed life sciences AI, the transformative impact of technologies on life sciences and healthcare and the importance of strategic partnerships in driving innovation and improving patient outcomes. Life sciences AI a key focus

Along its journey, AWS was considered a trusted partner that served as foundation for Bio-Rad’s cloud infrastructure, while Persistent’s expertise and strong partnership were instrumental in developing solutions, according to Desai. There was collaboration from the design phase on, enabling Bio-Rad to scale without compromising security.

“Whether it is for protecting our customers for data privacy who trust us for their data, using HIPAA-eligible services for compliance, or ensuring data integrity, this partnership with AWS and Persistent has truly been impactful,” Desai said.

Persistent’s role was to tailor AWS solutions to meet Bio-Rad’s specific needs, according to Shrivastava. That included leveraging domain expertise in life sciences.

“[We] worked closely with Bio-Rad’s team to address compliance and data privacy needs, while ensuring that the applications are scalable and efficient,” Shrivastava said.
