Hybrid cloud solutions: Bridging on-premises systems with cloud innovation
Hybrid cloud solutions are becoming increasingly essential as cloud adoption continues to soar while on-premises systems remain vital in regulated industries.
Success hinges on strategic alliances that enable seamless integration across diverse ecosystems. This creates opportunities for scalable modernization without disrupting critical operations, according to Giovanni Carraro (pictured), senior vice president of global strategic alliances at Kyndryl Inc.
“We live in a truly hybrid world, and I do believe that hybrid world is here to stay for quite some time. That some of the systems that run and are efficient and effective to run on-prem will remain on-prem,” Carraro said. “The issue is how do you extract the data to feed it into the system that needs to be more on the cloud that is more prone to the cloud and really takes advantage of, in a sense, both worlds? And how do you seamlessly integrate that it’s part of the challenge?”
Carraro spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier for theCUBE’s “Cloud AWS re:Invent Coverage,” during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Kyndryl’s strategic role in managing mission-critical systems, leveraging alliances with hyperscalers, such as Amazon Web Services, Inc., and enabling hybrid cloud solutions.
How hybrid cloud solutions are transforming mission-critical systems
A pivotal challenge for many enterprises is managing mission-critical systems while adopting modern technologies. These systems are often deeply entrenched in organizations, some spanning decades, yet they remain indispensable, Carraro explained.
“We run the mission-critical system the entire world relies on. We run the IT system in our operation for the largest airline, the banking system, the largest manufacturer,” Carraro said. “We’re really managing the mission-critical system and we’ve been doing it for decades. The average relationship we have with the clients is more than 10 years and we’re very cyclic because we were definitely the mission-critical aspect.”
Alliances play a crucial role in enabling organizations to navigate the complexities of the hybrid landscape. By leveraging partnerships with hyperscalers such as AWS, Kyndryl enables organizations to implement hybrid cloud solutions that modernize operations without disrupting critical systems, Carraro concluded.
“We spun out of IBM. We were the global technology services known at that time and November 2021 became an independent company. And becoming an independent company gave us an opportunity of really creating relationship with company we did not have access to when we were a services business captive in the product company,” he said. “Within a matter of not even months of being independent we strike the first alliances, and we initially focused on the hyperscalers. And the alliances with AWS was back in February of 2022. Since then, we’ve been building.”
