The development of artificial intelligence is accelerating faster than the cloud boom of the last decade. As cloud ecosystems expand, the next wave of innovation is reshaping industries at an unprecedented pace, bringing forth the sovereign cloud paradigm.

Equinix’s KJ Joshi Joins theCUBE to discuss sovereign cloud.
“The adoption is real,” said KJ Joshi (pictured), global managing director of platform alliances at Equinix Inc. “It’s much more accelerated than the cloud was, because I’m talking about AI, sovereign AI. Where cloud was about 10-12 years ago, AI is today. But the adoption rate of AI is going to be a lot faster than the cloud is. We are expecting the market to be roughly around 300 billion for AI alone.”
Joshi spoke with theCUBE Research’s Dave Vellante for theCUBE’s “Cloud AWS re:Invent Coverage,” during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed key trends driving cloud growth, multicloud connectivity and the overarching sovereign cloud idea.
Gone are the days of isolated multicloud strategies. Modern enterprises demand interconnected solutions that allow seamless workload management across different clouds. Equinix’s Fabric Cloud Router and IP-WAN, now available on AWS Marketplace, exemplify this shift, according to Joshi.
“We’ve had several conversations across a variety of partnerships,” he said. “We recently launched a couple of our services on AWS Marketplace, so a lot of conversations around that. We have also been advancing our discussions for our 50th upcoming location for Direct Connect.”
This “super cloud” vision transcends siloed architectures, as businesses embrace tools across platforms without dismantling existing infrastructures, according to Joshi. Given the rapid evolution of hybrid cloud definitions, moving from on-premises and public cloud combinations to interconnected ecosystems can also optimize workloads dynamically.
“If a customer is looking at connecting Oracle OCI databases to AWS, then they can use Fabric Cloud Router in the same location,” Joshi said. “Now, if they want to connect two different regions, say Microsoft Azure in US West to AWS US East, they will be using IP-WAN. Both these offerings are now generally available on the AWS marketplace.”
