Zilliz enhances AI cloud offering with enhanced ‘Bring Your Own Cloud’ capabilities

Zilliz Inc., the company behind the open-source Milvus vector database, today announced the release of an updated version of the Zilliz Cloud Bring Your Own Cloud offering that includes a series of advancements to its vector data offering.

The update release allows enterprises to run artificial intelligence workloads where their data resides while maintaining full control, accelerating AI adoption without compromising security or compliance.

Zilliz Cloud BYOC is built on Milvus and features enterprise-grade security capabilities, including fine-grained permission settings, private link support between the control plane and data plane, and communication via outbound port 443.

Key features of Zilliz Cloud BYOC include complete data and infrastructure control that allows enterprises to keep AI assets within their own cloud environment while ensuring security and compliance. In doing so, the service eliminates expensive data transfer costs by processing AI workloads where the data resides, leveraging Zilliz’s Cardinal Search Engine for optimal performance.

The platform enables AI innovation for regulated industries, allowing businesses to adopt vector search without compromising compliance. It also addresses growing data privacy concerns by keeping sensitive AI assets under company control, ensuring adherence to evolving data sovereignty regulations.

Zilliz Cloud BYOC makes large-scale AI deployments feasible while optimizing for data locality. Offering enhanced flexibility and security, businesses can scale AI operations efficiently while maintaining full control over their cloud environments.

On the security side, Zilliz Cloud BYOC provides enterprise-grade protections to meet the demands of regulated and data-sensitive industries. The service ensures data remains secure through fine-grained permission settings, which grant least-privileged access to the control plane and private link support, allowing for secure communication between the control and data planes without exposure to the public internet.

The platform also enforces strict data privacy measures, with all communication using outbound port 443 and HTTPS encryption to meet industry security standards. Additionally, the service ensures data residency compliance by keeping sensitive information within the customer’s chosen cloud region and virtual private cloud, aligning with global regulations such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act.

“Enterprise AI adoption surged in 2024 with no signs of slowing down, creating an increased need for AI-grade infrastructure,” said founder and Chief Executive Charles Xie. “Today’s businesses are looking for solutions that offer both the convenience of managed services and the control of self-hosted infrastructure for AI workloads and Zilliz Cloud BYOC fits directly in that sweet spot.”

Zilliz is a venture capital-backed startup that has raised $113 million over four rounds, including a round of $60 million in 2022. Investors in the company include Saudi Aramco Ventures Co., Pavilion Capital Holdings Pte. Ltd., Hillhouse Capital Management Ltd., 5Y Capital Management Ltd. and Yunqi Partners Ltd.
